Mainly, under the NLRB, every coworker has the right to either provide union literature or encourage and coax fellow workers to join the union. In such a situation, if a worker if a fellow worker comes to me and ask me to sign an authorization card, I would first inquire the significance of signing the card via questions which would help me know the reasons or rather how it would benefit him, me as well as other workers.
For instance, I would ask the question, which is the main reason as to why you want me to join the union and get my signature on the authorization card?
I would also ask what is the key significance in signing the card for me, for you as well as other workers who may be interested in joining the union.
Lastly, I would ask what would be the consequences if I signed the authorization card or if I did not sign it.
Such inquiries would help me know the significance of workers joining unions. They include; the unions help the workers fight for their rights, they also help eradicate unfair practices of the employers, helps them get fair wages, and lastly, they can work in conducive working conditions. According to section 7(a) of the act, protected the bargaining rights for workers unions (Morris, Charles J.,2005). Hence, joining the union would significantly strengthen the workers’ collective bargaining strength over their employers thereby getting rid of unfair labor practices.
