Assignment #4

I am a strong believer that everything happens for a reason. That said, there are those events that have happened in my life that I consider more impactful than others. For example, I was about 7 years of age when I lost my grandmother who I am named after. Her death was devastating as we were very close to each other. The week before she died, she had taken me on a trip to the airport and explained how the airplane functions detail by detail. Moreover, she was my source of history, and therefore, her death pained me. It has been a long time but I still remember that moment as I got sick for several days and would not sleep thereby negatively affecting my overall healthiness. This event made me fear death and to this day, I don’t like attending funerals.

Besides, I also recall the moment I fell in love for the first time. I was in high school and the boy of love was in junior college. Though we were brought up in the same environment and also were friends since childhood, we had not expressed any signs of love to each other. I remember were watching a movie in their house as normal when he came closer, looked at my eyes directly, grabbed my right hand, and announced his love to me. It was the first day for him to even how beautiful I am in his eyes and how we wanted us to be lovers. It was also the first day we deeply kissed each other. Telling you the truth, it was also the first day we had sex right in his bedroom. This first love expression and its even activities made me feel like I have gotten in a new world. It made me feel and think about him every day. It even changed how I viewed life as it made it more enjoyable to have a lover.

This first love made me have problems with my parents and siblings. While my mother considered me too young to have a boyfriend, my eldest brother reasoned that I was becoming immoral by having a relationship instead of concentrating on my education. I remember mom beating me mercilessly giving me warnings of never again having sexual intercourse with any man till I complete university. The brother also kept on shouting at me and anytime I would not do his wishes, he would assume that the boy has taught me to be disobedient. However, this mistreatment only made me love the boy more. Interestingly, it continued until the parents accepted. This made me believe that I can fight for what is mine regardless of my age and from that day, I have been bold for what my conscience dictates to me.

Further, I remember the day we moved to our fully-owned, bigger house. Since I was born, we had been living in a one-bedroom apartment that was not only congested but also old and located in a noisy street. Moving to the new house meant I would not sleep with my brothers in the same room and therefore I would have my privacy. We moved at the time I was in adolescence where I felt shy of my body changes and also I was starting to experience monthly periods. I hence had my room where I could do all stuff and check on the mirror how each body part was changing with time without having the fear of being caught by parents or siblings. Needless to say, the movement to this bigger house marked the end of my worries. However, this privacy provided me an opportunity to indulge on the internet where I could even watch videos of adults having intercourse. This greatly affected my critical thinking as those are things I would think of even in the classroom. It took the intervention of class teacher and school counselor who guided me back to normal life.

In recent times, I went on a trip to s South Africa. It was a family trip that happens every year but this time, we wanted to enjoy the African environment and experiment with what we read about the place. Interestingly, the tour confirmed the beauty of Africa and the generosity of its people. The tour was more enjoyable as I took part in great white shark cage diving, did a skydive, and also witnessed people doing crocodile cage diving in cape town. I also saw a variety of wild animals and even though we have them back at hope, their species were different and more beautiful. The weather was also accommodative. Were it not that I am still in school, I would have remained there and possibly get an African man for I enjoyed their company. This trip taught me that the world is full of wonders and beauties and traveling is the only way to experience what you hear or read about other places.

Out of the five events that I consider most significant in my life, that of first love had the greatest impact on life. This is because it was through this love that I lost my virginity and also the time that I felt great romantic concern for a man. It was a defining moment for my life in relationship and even though we parted way with the man after 4 years of dating, I learned a lot that I use to judge others in life. If I had an opportunity to change, I would have maybe not given in concentrated with my education
