Evidence Supporting the Implementation of CBT policy.
Cancer patients are vulnerable to depression for several reasons. First, the emerging pains as the cancer advances may increase psychological distress. Secondly, the series of chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions may also contribute to depression and anxiety. The population selected is the cancer patients, while the policy proposal is to implement cognitive behavioral therapy that would help decrease depressive symptoms in these patients.
The first article reviewed is by Soetrisno, Sulistyowati, Respati, and Nasrudin (2016) on the impact of CBT therapy on depression, QOL, and serotonin levels of cervical cancer patients. First, the authors used both control and intervention groups. The study was also held in a healthcare facility within the department of gynecology. The study also took a considerable period between January and March, which allowed us to investigate the full impact of CBT. The results indicated that CBT lowers the depression score of breast cancer patients. I would use this evidence to show the need to allocate adequate time for the proposed CBT sessions for effective results. However, the piece did not specify the necessary CBT techniques to use (Soetrisno et al., 2017).
The second article by Wang et al. (2015) also investigated the impact of the therapy on depression and quality of life in breast cancer patients. First, the study used a randomized clinical trial and used a large sample of patients (894 patients). The scholars established that therapy is essential for treating depression in breast cancer patients. I will use this evidence to support the need to implement the policy for breast cancer patients. Overall, I found this article with no significant drawbacks that I would avoid in my assignment (Wang et al., 2015).
