Family Strengths-Based Nursing Care
Family strengths-based nursing is an intervention strategy that allows nursing professionals to pay more attention to strengths within a family. A healthy family can be weaker in one area and stronger in other areas, and strengths may also overlap. By using this health intervention strategy, I will be able to focus on identifying deficits in family functioning and improve them. To assess family strengths using this strategy, I will ask family members to place a “G” beside qualities of potential growth, an “S” beside qualities where they feel strong, and “NA” beside qualities that do not apply. By agreeing to engage in this exercise, family members will be able to identify the qualities they would like to improve on, which will then serve as the foundation of their positive change and growth together.
I would use this strategy on families that experience psychological challenges or issues connected to chronic or acute illnesses, or those mourning the passing of a loved one. When families go through crisis phases in their lives, they always rely on nursing professionals to navigate the difficult moments in their lives. Using this health promotion strategy, I will assist families going through similar challenges to develop the resilience and the strength to overcome their psychological tortures. For families to stay strong together during difficult moments, they must be able to commit themselves to improve their coping strategies, and this is where I will be of help: use the family strengths-based intervention strategy to help families be happy and stay strong together by assessing their strengths and weaknesses and then helping them to improve on deficiencies. We all go through difficult moments in our lives, and we always need someone to hold our hand.
