FEDERALISM, SEPARATION OF POWERS, AND POLITICS

  1. FEDERALISM

Federalism is a mode of governance where powers are distributed among states. Federalism is a combination of regional government with the general government. This government system, instead of having one dominant power, there are numerous dominant powers based on their confederation and achieved statuses. Although these types of governance systems have brought more stability and success for the country, during the outbreak of deadly COVID-19, this model of governance does not seem successful and cooperative. Some shortcomings occur as a barrier towards the fight with the coronavirus. The one major problem is that in the federation, different parties hold powers, and the competition is higher. The competition and sense of not being responsible abandoning states at a considerable level.

The federal government didn’t take responsibility to deal with social consequences caused because of the deadly outbreak; thus, people took this responsibility by themselves. It is the responsibility of mayors and federalists to think about how to react to the deadly virus and how to keep their people safe. But in most states, federalism fails to meet expected operations. Federalists in Washington and the United States are thinking that they need to keep themselves safe first, then the member of state will be considered. Federalism is a selfish type of method of government that does not care about their people first but want each other in power to help the state. Researches show that it is hard to figure out when everything will be right back. Still, the activities of our federal state members predict that the power should be handled by the central body to make a productive decision. Lack of role of the federal government put countries into crisis during this outbreak of pandemic (Kreitner, 2020). The role of presidents is more highlighted during this outbreak then governor’s. The role of governance is not satisfactory and cooperative with states. Switzerland is also in crisis more than the United States because of the unsatisfactory role of the federal state.

  1. SEPARATION OF POWERS

All three branches of government are doing well in pivoting the deadly virus from the country. The significant loss country is facing is the decline in the economy because of a business closure. Thus to limit or reduce this loss number of legislations has been passed in the last few months. The executive branch of the government, including the president and other workers, are facing conflict in their decisions regarding the protection of the country. President Trump comes under the executive branch of the country who signed several legislations into the country for dealing with emergencies. The most significant signed agreement by Trump is an $8.3 billion emergency spending package that is aimed to protect people from the lack of types of equipment. The legislative branch of the government is also playing an essential role in bypassing the required laws and making essential decisions within time (Higgins, 2020).

The role of congress in handling the crisis of coronavirus is not ordinary. They are performing an informed consent to protect its people from harsh conditions. The Department of the Treasury is using several mechanisms by using existing laws to confront challenges and crises caused by the COVID-19. Congress has also donated or spend trillions of dollars for coronavirus relief. Congress also played a role in shaping the activities of the private sector and make them responsive to deal with the challenges of the virus. Congress put their eye on the role as well as the responsibilities of the private sector since the onset of deadly coronavirus in the country (James D. Barnette, 2020).

The role of the court in dealing with the COVID-19 is essential and they are proving this during a crisis. By making important decisions regarding lockdown or healthcare implications and implementing those decisions on US states, courts are on the first line. US courts playing an extraordinary role in establishing healthy decisions to protect the country from massive stress.

  1. POLITICS

The role of politics in the time of crisis is essential, but across the world, leadership styles b bringing different results. Governors, mayors, city counselors, and local officials are stepping up to solve the problem of crisis. At this time of crisis, the role of government and leadership cannot be overemphasized to honor the public. There are world leaders that are protecting their people through practical leadership skills while there are people who fail to compensate their people with empathy and efficient leadership. The role of leaders and politicians helps people to see the light when we pass from the dark time. Good leadership is what makes people realized that together we could pull this crisis collectively. I think the role of Trump is not like an effective leadership style. He is confused about his role. He fails to show empathy towards his people – but we cannot neglect his actions, including relief programs, to protect its state (Gallo, 2020).

But other leaders across the world like Andrew Cuomo, in every speech during the crisis, shows his love and praise for New York people. He knows how to address his people to motivate them to stay healthy and positive during the pandemic. On the other side, another leader Montana Governor Steve Bullock shows care and compassion for his people during the crisis. Along with introducing reliefs and other compensating programs, Steve Bullock introduces numerous strategies that could save his people from confronting the virus. His words in a speech, “As long as this virus forces Montanans to shelter at home, Montanans need to have a home to shelter in.” shows he knows to persuade his people effectively. These styles of government and leadership are different and bringing different outcomes for people. The government plays a vital role in shaping its people’s perception and help them to manage the situation of crisis efficiently (Neumann, 2020).
