Movie summary
The film, Mi Familia tells a story of the oldest son in Sanchez family that lived in migrated to Los Angeles from Mexico. The movie starts as Sanchez who is the heads of the family as he travels to Loa Angeles to meet El California who was his relative and lived in Los Angeles as it was considered to be part of Mexico. El California becomes good friends, and they end up joining forces in growing corns (Ascárate, 2003). Sanchez marries maria, and they have their first son named Chucho who born when maria was deported by the US government to move back to Mexico. Maria later moves back to Los Angeles with her son.
Twenty years down the line, their sons become hold, and their family becomes extended with one of their son’s marrying Irene. Live becomes, and other characters such as Carlito’s develops issues or problem in his behaviour since he lacked parental attachment and love (Ascárate, 2003). The film ends with maria and Jose recounting how they are blessed since they have lived to see three generations in their family through a lot of struggles.

Cultural background difference between the Americans and Mexicans shows how families undergo cultural changeovers during the change of generations. All characters in the film are Mexican, and they all display Mexican culture and also portray the aspects that bring change from a generation to another (Ebert, 1995). The first generation of the Mexican/ American family migrates too Los Angeles from Mexico and uphold all their traditions and norms and the second generation find it hard and difficult to uphold their traditions and culture. The last generation is seen to adopt a new culture and end up upholding new traditions and cultures.
The films represent stereotype characters ranging from a nun, caretaken and mother to an independent stubborn and also fierce women. These stereotype characters in the movie have the personality that makes them to portrayed as dynamic characters. Maria is the first woman character to be portrayed in the movie, and she is seen swept off by Jose, who is a landscaping man. Jose ends up marrying maria, and they are blessed with two daughters. Maria is portrayed as a stereotype woman who believes that once a woman is married, she supposed to bear children for her husband, and this is not true in all cases. Make character becomes unique as she struggles to raise her husband and children (Rosas, 2014). The INS dragged her off when the Infamous Operation Wetback deported anyone who resembled any Mexicans. During that time, Maria is pregnant, and she ships as an American girl who is pregnant. At long last, she finds her way to where her aunt lived and later on survived to give birth to her first son without her husband support.
Maria is also portrayed as a strong woman who endured being shipped off from her husband, but she also endured hatred and discrimination because of her skin and color. The character of Isabel of dancing ends up seducing Jimmy. Isabel character in seducing Jimmy is unique since her way differs completely from that cultures they found in Loa Angeles (Vasquez, 2013). Isabel seduction moves make Jimmy to romantic dance to the turn of Latin music and therefore, they end up surprising their neighbours.
