Finance and Christianity
There are several similarities between finance and Christianity. Finance explains various roles of a financial manager can do manage the affairs of the firm. The roles of managers include obtaining sources of finances, managing working capital, and investment decisions. Christianity teaches about the role of followers so that they will have eternal life. Christians read the bible and listen to religious preachers to increase their chances of having everlasting life. In my opinion, managers can draw lessons from Christianity including almsgiving, trust, and investing.
In Christianity, followers are required to give almsgiving to the poor. Christians believe doing so God will bless them through the blessings from the poor. Jesus explained in his teaching that a person who had contributed the least was more blessed compared to the reach who made an insignificant offering. In contrast, businesses believe in corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR means giving back to society because they help the business exist. Most managers having CSR believe they will be returns in form improved public relations and sales revenue (Preuss 584).
Jesus explained to his followers there is treasury in heaven and important for them to give tithes and offerings. The teachings encouraged Christians to have moral obligations to increase their treasure in heaven by contributing more. In contrast, finance encourages people to invest so that the returns will be higher; investor’s deposits higher amount of funds to obtain higher returns.
The bible emphasizes on trusting each other. Christians are not required to cast doubts in their daily activities but to trust upon the Lord. In contrast, the relationship between lender and borrower is built on trust. The lender has trust that the borrower will not default and repay the loan inclusive of interest.
It will be important in our daily life to apply faith and finance; this will minimize the chances of conflicts. Managers will engage in CSR, the investors will deposit their funds, and lenders will be able to lend loans.
