fire outbreaks in petrol stations
I identified fire outbreaks in petrol stations as the most common risk in Florida by analyzing data relating to current and previous incidences from the local fire department. The report shows that there has been an increase in reported cases relating to pump station accidents. My interaction and interview with the local community has also confirmed this fact. One of the reasons for the spike is attributed to an increase in the number of gas stations installed within densely populated residential areas of Florida. The rise in demand for fuels is as a result of the rapid population growth, and development of public transportations experienced in recent times. Some of the frequently reported cases include; Fire outbreaks or ignition source on the forecourt, spillage of petrol, explosions, contamination of clothing of either client or personnel with petrol, injury to client or personnel on-site, violence, personal injury and robbery. Secondly, I researched on the demographics of Florida and analyzed the; population size, Area size, the community housing makeup, population breakdown, and mapped out areas that were more vulnerable in case of a disaster.
The high growth rate of Florida’s population and infrastructure will continue in the coming years, and this will further lead to more installations of gas stations to meet the growing demand. Consequently the number of incidences will increase. Therefore to avert and mitigate a disaster in the future, it is crucial to put in place a comprehensive community risk reduction plan.
