Food Borne Diseases
Human health is quite important, and nit is necessary that the immunity is kept at its best to fight any pathogens. These foodstuffs that people take at times contain pathogens, and therefore individuals get foodborne infections, and in serious cases, a foodborne outbreak may occur, affecting many lives of individuals. It is only through access to sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food that life and good health can be sustained.
Food-borne diseases occur due to taking in food that contains harmful substances such as parasites and chemicals or, at times, food that contains harmful bacteria and viruses. These harmful pathogens are known to cause more than 200 diseases that range from diarrhea to all forms of cancers. According to research done by the World Health Organization, more than 420000 lives are lost as a result of food poisoning. About 600 million people fall ill in the same year, which means that it is a serious problem that needs to be addressed and remedied.
Food-borne diseases also affect the economy that is supposed to provide for communities to remain healthy. In the US, more than $110 billion gets lost in the year’s productivity. This is due to the productivity and medical expenses used as a result of the unsafe food made in low- and middle-income companies. Above that, the bigger burden goes to the children who are aged below 5 years. The parents that die live the children at risk of suffering the same fate, and due to their low immunity, about 125000 deaths occur every year.
The most common form of the disease is diarrhea. Once an individual has consumed toxic substances, diarrhea is the first sign, followed by headaches, and in the long run, cancers can begin to kick in. Diarrhea is responsible for the death of 550 million sicknesses and 230000 deaths every year. It is, therefore, necessary that the causes and precautions necessary take to reduce this drastic event.
The government should let individuals understand the importance of food safety; food security and nutrition are highly linked. It is good that measures be taken to change the situation. Infants, young children, and the sick cannot manage to feed themselves, and the food-borne diseases are very lethal to them. The disease outbreaks also affect the economy of these countries that are trying to come up with poverty. Most of the reported cases of outbreaks are mostly from slums and low life citizens. There should be a fair distribution of resources within the country to ensure that all citizens are well protected. Proper storing methods should also be educated to the public to avoid pathogenic infections in rural and urban areas.
