Food safety and supply is a major health issue in highly populated countries such as China. China has witnessed rapid modernization and industrialization that have led to profound food safety and food supply issues. Agricultural production also produced significantly in China as a result of soil and water pollution.  The country has suffered from soil quality issues and freshwater deficits. Although there has been an increase in demand for agricultural products, crop yield has significantly dropped over the past years. Food poisoning has been a major problem in China due to pathogenic microorganisms and intoxicated animals in the food supply. To resolve to save water pollution, the Chinese government has enacted reform laws and safety regulations.

Xiu, C., & Klein, K. K. (2010). Melamine in milk products in China: Examining the factors that led to deliberate use of the contaminant. Food Policy, 6(2), 463-470.

Chemicals used in plastics processing possess a major risk to human health. In 2008, the Chinese government established the presence of melamine in infant milk powder. The chemical compound has been causing the development of kidney stone in young children. When such cases remain untreated, it leads to renal failure and consequently causing death. The problem in the dairy industry in China results from the rapid growth of industrialization and heavy investment in dairy firms. As a result of the melamine crisis, the Chinese government enacted new rules and regulations on food safety mandating regular inspections of various food production companies.

The impact of water and soil pollution poses a major risk to health and food safety in China. Over-application of pesticides and other chemical pollutants are major factors affecting food safety in China. Sailor and water pollution how’s lead to the production of contaminated crops and reduced yield. Some of the health risks associated with contaminated food due to soil and water pollution in China include cancer clusters. Various stakeholders in health and food safety and a Chinese government have recommended effective measures such as no implementation to reduce water and soil pollution.

Banat, D. (2011). Consumer response to food scandals and scares. Trends in Food Science & Technology, 1(5), 56-60.

China has witnessed severe environmental repercussions as a result of exposure to soil and water pollution. The previous existence of organic pollutants in soil and water has jeopardized production activities leading to a reduction in crop yield. There has been a different consumer response towards solving food scandals and scares in China. Following the last decade of melting consumer confidence in food policy, the government has worked towards changing legislation and food safety systems to reduce perceived risks. Consumers across the globe are developing awareness to enhance eternities and risks associated with food safety.
