Abstract

In our assignment, the paper will exclusively discuss significant cultural elements in religion, communication, ethics, and values in the community and how it affects business in Switzerland. The fact that culture is practiced in different nations at different dimensions, the paper will endure looking at these elements in Switzerland and when necessary, compared to the USA’s business culture. It will discuss the effects and consequences of cultural practices in business in Switzerland. The discussion will also be significant in answering the following questions: how business elements and dimensions are integrated by locals conducting business in the nation and how the above items compare with US culture and business. The research will also discuss the implications for US businesses that wish to conduct business in that religion.

What are the Major Elements and dimensions of culture in this region?

Globalization is revolutionizing the world at a very high rate. In today’s world, people can exchange goods and services, information, money, which has created opportunities, networks, and many benefits to the planet. However, “globalization is not a new phenomenon but has been an aspect of humanity from the earliest time, as widely scattered populations gradually became involved in more extensive and complicated economic relations (Starlee, 2018). The positive side of globalization has led many companies and firms to conduct business in other countries such as Switzerland. Switzerland, also known as the Swiss Confederation, is situated in the central part of Europe. Italy borders it in the south, France on the west, Germany on the north, and Austria in the east. Over the past years, there have been many business and culture trends due to all-time evolution. When conducting business in a country like Switzerland, significant elements and dimensions of culture such as communication, religion, ethics, value and attitudes, manners and customs, social structures, and organizations need to be considered.

Throughout our entire discussion, we shall see how business is done and affected by various factors, both internal and external, and how as a nation, it adapts to all the changes and make their environment conducive for trade.

As globalization keeps expanding over the recent years, there has been more interaction between people from different cultures. And this requires managers to interact with other cultures, and it’s essential for their business or companies to either successfully conduct or negotiate deals that would be beneficial to them. Companies or businesses that fail to conduct business or arrange in a foreign culture are usually prone to cultural gaps. Culture gaps usually affect communication because many companies in home countries won’t allow their managers to adapt their corporate policies to suit local needs. Moreover, “the necessity for the global business professional to understand the dimensions of culture has become increasingly important (Starlee, 2018).

Communication can be defined as: “transmission and sharing of information between people, movement impressions, opinions, value judgments, affective states, orders, etc. ” which influenced the conduct of participants in the process. Communication can take the form of verbal and nonverbal communication. Verbal communication involves speaking, while nonverbal communication involves body language and facial expressions. In business, it was found that sales performance can be dependent on verbal and nonverbal communication (Christensen et al., .2007).

Verbal communication is an efficient way to express one’s intentions and help organize matters and decisions in business situations. Verbal communication can also be used indirectly to communicate or express one’s feelings and thoughts. According to research conducted, it was found that verbal communication was found to be an efficient way to communicate intentions. It was found that verbal communication can influence people’s actions and decisions when they are not angry. The experiments conducted have shown that if a person displayed happiness, they were judged, to be honest, reliable, and trustworthy. These qualities had facilitated cooperation when verbal communication was cooperative rather than self-interested. “When conveying messages, non- verbal communication is just as important as verbal communication. It is generally explained as the transmission of messages and signals through the body and facial expressions. Due to world organizations, the formation of joint world unions like World Health Organization services are being derived from reducing the monopoly of superpowers like America, and necessary future services like education and goods will be available even in third world countries like Cameroon in Africa continent.

On the other hand, counties with well-established businesses and stable cultures are economically potential. Stable economies mean that the country can produce or generate its own and enough food. The production in excess is essential, and this increases their trading power. Residents can finance their government by remitting taxes effectively (Al‐Msallam, 2020).

Proper communication builds trust in management level down to the junior employees. At national levels, conflict resolution and prevention are critical to safeguarding countries’ economies from collapsing in political instability cases. Communication strengthens the relationship between governments, companies, and employees, which brings respect to the culture. Production in the United States is high due to good communication policies and strategies. Any investor planning to start a business, Switzerland needs to note the smooth flow and less struggle during their business course (Al‐Msallam, 2020).

Investors in communication in business are an incomplete investment success. Switzerland’s government needs to learn from the United States administration and try to faster equivalent business struggle for its citizens. When ethnicity is reduced to zero levels, communication finds its way easy and beneficial to the target respondents. Though it is not worth wise to advise all people to invest in America, investors can push and improve Switzerland’s weaknesses and market the best business hub in the coming days. As a significant key to many nations worldwide, education needs to be factored a lot in the Swiss government. The implication from the United States business is that with enough specialization in different fields of the company. There are likely to be good fruits at the end. In the early 19th century, scholars like Henry King and Martin Luther pushed for equality in educational rights and discrimination. It was not seen as if it would one day help shape up education in the United States (Al‐Msallam, 2020).

Today in America, they celebrate the ambassadors of education since the biggest and best universities are formed there. This, for years, has made the United States be the center and excellence of education. The level of education determines ethical behavior and professional conduct that leads to business and culture success.

In my opinion, I would advise Switzerland government to invest more in education and produce their business entrepreneurs competent enough for competition across the globe. This, again, will have reduced brain drain and concentrate knowledge in their country.  To the investors or any other business person wishing to start a business in Switzerland, I would advise them to ensure that they have the best labor competitive enough to match the business labor in the United States. For the production to be sufficient and continuous, experienced personnel must be acquired in production, processing, and in-service delivery (Desson et al. 2020).

In a God-fearing nation, there seems to be more achievement than failures. The majority of Switzerland natives are Christians and Muslims in slightly higher than that in Switzerland. Christians are known to have an acceptable code of conduct in both business and culture. Christian’s value teaches the best international practices, intercommunity up to the grass root levels. The United States has had a good business record from the unity of love and peace that the church preached. Togetherness is evident in all its trade matters and has a good relationship with other partners in trading. Switzerland also can focus on increasing numbers of Christians and Muslims by converting more who do not believe in Christian or Muslim values.

Meanwhile, business in the United States is more successful due to religious contributions than in Switzerland, and investors thinking of trading in Switzerland need to take note of this. This will also help them know the type of business to invest in. Values and attitudes are essential elements of culture. A person or a nation with the right length can move from a failure to success values, and altitude is dictated by the type of leadership a county entails. When the business environment is good enough for political stability are security is at its stable forms. This enables the trade to be conducted by business people comfortably. In countries where values and altitude are motivated, more production and business success are recorded in the United States. This is evident because the citizens could utilize all the available resources to benefit their country (Desson et al., 2020).

In my opinion, investors wishing to start a business in Switzerland must be mindful of the residents and their altitude values. This will help them know the best approach on how to create and continue a successful business. Motivation by the government’s incentives, bonuses to the employees by the improvement, and change of work’s values and altitude. This enables and increases their productivity hence success.

Conclusion

Finally, cultural practices are equally important as business varies from community to the other country to different continent to the other. As we have seen, business in Switzerland is affected by the various elements and dimensions of culture. As discussed, it’s essential for a country to device the best measured to respond to any matters affecting trading. Switzerland is not the only country that is influenced by culture but all other countries across the globe. National leaders should always be at the front and learn new leadership and delivery methods to improve the value of trade and trading methods. We should all be willing and able to learn and accommodate new ideas as we have seen from the United States and borrow them for our good of our people and country (Desson et al. 2020). As we have discussed, religion and communication are mostly dictated by the level of education. Most of the developed countries knew this secrete as early as the start of the 19th century, and to date, knowledge has helped them go miles of the development. Therefore, it is my advice to most of the third world nations to consider and invest mainly in education. This will help save their future generation and rise above living below the poverty line. With the best educational skills, labor is always readily available, and there are no brain drain cases. A country can raise its competent investor and researchers who can help the country during essential occasions like pandemics and provide the nation’s necessary advice. This usually reduces the running cost of hiring external labor since it’s known from the business principles that internal labor is always cheaper than any external. Switzerland should invest in equipping its learning institution and making it a national factor that international research can conduct. This will significantly advance their levels of trade and acceptance for investments.

Culture and business are almost everywhere. Therefore, it’s essential to adopt measures to accommodate all these cultural practices and device new estimates of how to settle and improve trading standards. As an almost developed country, Switzerland has the potential to scale up in all it’s trading and leadership activities.
