GMO medications
Reflection
GMOs have, over the years, been associated with food crops. Few individuals are aware of the positive health impacts that GMOs have on prevailing pandemics. In the fight against Zika, Ebola, and other conventional flues, biomedical expertise turn to the same molecular methodologies adopted in GMO crops to deduce protective medication. As a result of this technology, scientists have a quicker way of manufacturing a protective vaccine, studying new threats, and monitoring any eventuality of new outbreaks (Cross, 2016). GMOs are an organism with recombined DNA. Notably, when cells are inserted into another body for study purposes, they are termed as recombined DNA.
In the human body, Vaccine attaches themselves to the immune system enabling them to be more powerful and reactive to disease. A vaccine uses a pre-disposal mechanism to arm the body for war in case the threat pounce. From a microscope perspective, a virus exhibits spiky ball physical features that carry the genetic materials. Most bio-medics typically apply molecular biological tools to study the genetic composition of human cells carefully.
In a scenario where a county is facing drought cases, GMO developers can adopt molecular biology to fabricate varieties of plants that can thrive with fewer water needs and are pest-free. Furthermore, molecular biology can foster accelerated vaccine production. A good example is the DNA vaccine deduced for the Zika virus.
Similarly, top-grossing pharmaceuticals, as well as vaccines, require high amounts of proteins. Nonetheless, protein is a very rare and costly element to manufacture. However, the human body cell requires regular protein production to survive. The body can be coaxed to produce more protein by the use of GMOs vaccines and medications. Perhaps in Western Africa, the most drastic event of GMO drugs was the epidemic of Ebola in 2014. Once U.S. scientist Kent Brantly and other western volunteers had Ebola, a few treated were invented by Zmapp. Manufactured from GM tobacco products, the Ebola virus is a combination of different proteins (Cross, 2016).
Information learned
Currently, GMOs vaccines and medications have been on the forefront in curing most of the known pandemics worldwide. The department that deals with molecular biology have assured people all over that GMO drugs are the future solution to different diseases.
As much as the topic of GMOs is both promising and effective, it is fair to observe the cons of GMO drugs. I would like to understand further the concept that underlies the effect sides. I want to evaluate the arguments that are brought forth by the anti- GMO advocates. Most of these advocates say that drugs have long-lasting effects on human health. Nevertheless, current studies of this topic have profoundly expounded my understanding of the concept of GMO medicine.
Public awareness
Educating people on the needs of such an institution that deals with biological molecular structure and cures are vital to a healthy world. Therefore, various methods of educating people need to be adapted to create awareness to people. Aspect like social media platforms needs to create so that people can understand how GMO drugs work and the positive impacts they have on the communities. Furthermore, those with contrary allegations towards the mode of medication should provide scientific proof of their allegations.
