- What happens when Everyman asks Goods to accompany him? Why does Goods think that his presence would adversely influence God’s judgment of Everyman? How does Goods compare with Good Deeds? Why is Good Deeds at first unable to accompany Everyman?
Goods after being asked by a man to accompany them reject the offer and says that t does not accompany anyone on such journeys (Moses,2014). Goods prefer to be left behind. The reason for goods not to accompany man on his journey is that the way to heaven is narrow, and no goods can be allowed in heaven. The answer given by goods when asked to go with their owners is sad as the men are now left alone to face reality. The book shows how men waste their time to get wealth, which doesn’t help them when encountered with death. Goods think their presence will anger God as men spend most of their lives amassing the goods and give God little attention (Moses,2014). Goods are material things that have turned people against God. We can understand why a man gets the answer that he can’t be accompanied by his friend’s goods. This is because the goods are evil and can’t be allowed in heaven to corrupt the men when they go to heaven.
Goods also lead men into committing sins against God. Good deeds are tiny as compared to great goods. Goods are given mans a lot of attention as compared to good deeds, which are given little attention during man’s lifetime. Goods are given much of a man’s time and provide the men with a sense of accomplishment (Moses,2014). On the other hand, good deeds are not seen during a man’s lifetime as they don’t bring any sense of achievement. Most men always see that the goods will be with them forever, but they forget that death comes for everyone regardless of the goods they have amassed. Good deeds are unable to accompany man as the man has always neglected the good deeds (Garner,2017). The other reason a man can’t be accompanied by good deeds is the fact that man is not a good deeds friend. The two are more like enemies and don’t tolerate each other. Good deeds require men to go and assemble all the five wits. Good deeds need to be accompanied by knowledge.
