Graphic Designers
Graphic designers can be traced back to 15, 000 BC, first when visual communication came into being. Graphic designers take part in different art including logo-making, book covers, and art scripts later for museums (Munari, 2008). Saul Bass and Milton Glaser are both 20th century graphic designers, who have revolutionized the modern graphic design industry throughout their work history (Lewandowski, 2013). Both Bass and Glaser graphic designers were born in the 1920’s to immigrant families in the New York. They both majored in the design of major logo corporations but later diversified into other works. Bass and Glaser worked for advertisements until they had their major breakthroughs. Glaser and Bass advanced into the film industry, creating movie covers and other graphical productions in the media industry.
Glaser was born the year 1929 to a Hungarian and Jewish family in New York, later studying art in Bologna, Italy. Bass, born in 1920 in New York to a Jewish family, had his classes in the Art Students League. After the completion of his classes, Bass mostly worked for advertising before concentrating on movie posters and titles credits (Bass and Kirkham, 2011). Contrary, Glaser commenced in advertising, then majored in logo making. He helped come up with design firms that flourished the pre-digital and digital era. Bass on the other had focused on injecting life into the cinema scenes by producing title credits and film posters (Zijlstra, 2015).
Glaser is distinctively known for his works of best selection of posters, logos, album covers, book covers, and labels, deploying his peculiarly bold designs (Glaser, 2000). Some of his profound works is the design of profound logo companies such as Brooklyn Brewery, Jet Blue, Target and Coach, among other renowned art work. Bass applied the sophistication of movie posters to come up with distinctively unique movie posters and title credits, with the use of minimal styles. Some of his major works in the movie industry include Goodfellas (1990), Cape Fear (1991), The Age of Innocence (1993), and Casino (1995) (Horak, 2014).
