Summarizing Sources

Han, David S. “Categorizing Lies.” U. Colo. L. Rev. 89 (2018): 613.

To a large extent, lies are seen as wrong and immoral. However, categorizing the reasons behind lies may reveal the attitudes and motives people have for giving false information. Investors tend to look for viable business opportunities before investing their resources. If a person in business pitches a proposal that does not necessarily reflect their activity but wins the investment; the lie cannot be categorized as bad lies. The benefit of lies goes beyond winning a business investment. Lies may save a relationship and restore hope. A lie may be used to protect the feelings of an emotionally unstable person. Sometimes the truth can be extremely brunt for the faint-hearted.

Shores, Mary. Conscious Communications: Your Step-by-step Guide to Harnessing the Power of Your Words to Change Your Mind, Your Choices, and Your Life. Hay House, Inc, 2017.

The choices we make extend to how we communicate. Self-communication is pertinent as it forms our worldview.  The words we use are not idle, but they have so much power of transforming and creating. Our emotions generally tend to respond to the words we hear. A toxic environment affects an individual emotional state to the point of affecting their mental wellness. Recently, there has been a surge in mental cases with significant numbers showing people battling with depression. One therapy for fighting this condition is positivism. Although we may not dictate what happens in our environment, we can choose how we respond to them.

Andrews, Andy. How Do You Kill 11 Million People?: Why the Truth Matters More Than You Think. Thomas Nelson, 2020.

Asking the right questions is pertinent in getting the correct answers. The citizens of Germany were not keen is history and factual information, that is why their government killed 11 million of them. The choice to demand accountability, good governance and integrity from our leaders is fundamental in determining the prosperity of a nation. Lies bring significant consequences to a society and a government. The standard yardstick for measuring any leader is in their ability to propagate the truth.

Newman, Nic, and Richard Fletcher. “Bias, bullshit and lies: Audience perspectives on low trust in the media.” Available at SSRN 3173579 (2017).

The society is continually looking for information. In this day and age, information is available from many sources. Although data can be accessed quickly, people generally trust information from mainstream media. However, the rise of false information and lies has lowered the trust levels from the public. Mainstream media are accused of promoting a specific agenda when sharing news. Others are openly biased and thus misrepresent information. The public needs to the story that is correct, factual and devoid of lies. Quality journalism is synonymous with truth.
