Keeping fit is everyone’s goal, and it is also a goal towards a healthy life. However, there are specific barriers that one may face in the process of keeping fit, and they need to be addressed before one starts the fitness tests and assessments (Cale, 2017). These barriers can be classified as either personal barriers or environmental barriers that may prevent one from carrying the required physical activities to achieve fitness.
Personal barriers include:
- Lack of enough time
- Lack of self-motivation to exercise
- Lack of encouragement from family and friends
- Lack of enough confidence to go through the fitness challenge
- She was facing inconveniences with exercise.
With an adult, there are three main challenges that one experience in their fitness challenge life. These are time, energy, and motivation. However, the same problems are faced by middle-aged individuals, and the other additional barriers include finances, injury, illness, skills, and partner issues.
Certain limitations can be experienced when carrying out the fitness assessment tests, and there are reasons behind the barriers. These limitations include, the tests are too general and not sports specific, most of the tests are inaccurate as they do not use direct measuring, correct procedures need to be used while carrying out the procedures and failure to do this incorrect results are arrived at and lastly the tests do not show the movements or the activities.
The client is physically able to complete the fitness self-assessment, and thus no modifications need to be taken on any tests. The client carried out the rest effectively, and all the tests were completed without fail. Precautions taken were to ensure that the client was not injured when taking the fitness tests as this would limit them from making such tests in the future. The prevention of injury was also to facilitate the completion of the tests as if the injury was experienced in the middle of the tests, and then the client will not manage to complete the full tests.
Rockport walking test is the self-assessment evaluation in which one checks on cardiovascular fitness (Sakai, 2019). The test aims at determining the amount of oxygen that one can utilize during intense exercise, and it is measured in milliliters per kilograms per minute. After carrying out this test, the rating was excellent, and the population average was 31.77. the average score was 101 showing that the analysis was carried out in the right way and was satisfactory. The main achievement was that I could hold as much oxygen during the test and showed that I was fit.
Push up test is a self-assessment test in which an individual manages to measure the upper body strength and endurance. The test helps a trainer to compare their strength and endurance to other people of their age and gender. The tests ensure that one can maintain a rigid position as it engages all the muscles from head to toe. I undertook the challenge of taking 50 push-ups, and it turned out to be excellent. The population average was 16, and the score was a hundred. I aimed to determine whether my body could hold it, and I managed it.
The sit and reach test is used to measure the flexibility of the lower back and the hamstring muscles. The tightness caused during the inspection is implicated in the forward pelvic tilt, lower back pain, and lumbar lordosis. The distance covered was 20 inches, and the performance was excellent, with a score of 77, and the population average was 16.75. I realized that with more tests, my flexibility would improve.
Another test is the body mass index in which a person’s weight in kilograms is divided by the person’s height in meters. It can be interpreted that the high the BMI, the upper the body fatness. The population average stood at 24.9, which shows there is a need to exercise, although the results show that I am healthy. With some fitness exercise, I can lose some fat to prevent being in grade 1 obesity.
The waist to hip ratio is the measure of fat distribution in which one gets an idea of their general body health. When one carries a lot of weight around the waist than their hips, then it is interpreted that they face a high risk of developing certain health conditions. The test shows that I am at a high risk as the score stands at one, and the population average is 0.76.the waist to hip ratio is 0.95, and there is a need to carry out an exercise to avoid the risk.
Jennifer is a single mom with three kids and happens to be overweight and depends on high blood pressure medication. Being overweight and a high blood pressure patient, this would mean that she is not much flexible and thus cannot take all the fitness tests. Despite this, the doctor has advised her to avoid the medication if she plans to take extensive tests (Fang, 2017). Jennifer’s fitness testing will be on losing weight, and together with her sons, she can undertake the Rockport walk test, push up tests body mass index tests, and check on the waist to hip ratio test. With this, she can tell of the results expected and how to manage her tests. These tests will help in losing weight together with gaining flexibility. This will be of help and will prevent her and the sons from developing conditions prematurely.
At first, Jennifer has problems as it is an adjustment period, and her results may not be motivating. With her sons’ company, she can achieve more, and it will reflect in the scores attained. To improve on the ratings, Jennifer should ensure that even during her office work, she should take a break and stretch a bit to gain flexibility.
