Health issues in your development based on your family history, genetics, environment, and current lifestyle
PSY 201 Summer 2019
Research Paper: Research current and potential future health issues in your development based on your family history, genetics, environment, and current lifestyle by reading at least three relevant professional peer-reviewed journal articles (e.g. Journal of Learning Disabilities, Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, Journal of Attention Disorders, etc. -not web pages, not Wikipedia, not magazine articles, etc.) that relate to one those health issues or disorders.
Then write a paper of at least five body pages and paraphrased sentences from each journal you’re going to cite, not including cover page, abstract and reference page(s) on your future health in APA style. Your grade will be based on the attached rubric. I am more than happy to meet with you during my office hours if you have any questions.
- Provide an introduction to your health In the introduction, you should refer to the areas that will be covered in your paper. Give the reader a preview of what you will talk about in your paper.
- Provide a backstory to your topic. What are the issues your family history and genetics that may cause you future health issues? What are your risks? You may use online tests to help determine some level of risk. There are questionnaires on your chances of breast cancer based on family history online or at your doctor’s office. Questions you might answer are: How do we treat this diagnosis/issue? What are the criteria for diagnosis of this disorder? What are the epidemiology rates, g. prevalence, incidence, gender differences, etc. What is the course of this diagnosis? E.g. progressive & irreversible? Age of onset? Does it develop in response to a stressor? Be sure to appropriately cite information from each of the three journal articles to answer each question. Note: not all of these questions might have an answer for your topic. You may also add other information not listed here from peer reviewed journal sources.
- Be sure to include things you may need to change about your lifestyle and steps you can take to help possibly prevent health issues later in your
- Your paper must be written in APA style. It should be at least six total pages. It is up to you to make sure that your paper is edited, revised, and proofread. See the sample APA style paper attached. Be sure your paper adheres to the following:
- One-inch margins on all four sides of the page; running head and page numbers inside the top margin. 12 pt. font throughout, no changes in font or font
- References cited correctly in text either as paraphrases or direct quotes with page numbers. Direct quotes are APA format. Credit is given where credit is due (or else it is plagiarism).
- Spelling, grammar, punctuation, noun-verb agreement all correctly followed; obvious mistakes avoided (paper was proofread). Avoid being colloquial (too informal); no contractions, no abbreviations unless APA-approved.
- Transitions between sections should be smooth; avoid awkward sentence constructions, write
in complete sentences. Text looks good on paper; black ink on bright white paper; no printer problems. APA Publication Manual (6th ed.) followed. Stapled in upper left corner.
