Healthy Work Environment
A healthy working environment is critical to ensure that employees are motivated and are happy to work. This helps to boost their performance and hence the general output of the company. Hornsey’s language and treatment towards employees was wrong, and was enough reason to reprimand her. The importance of reprimanding is that it helps to stop greater damage that may be caused by the employee in question and retain the initial healthy business environment. From the video, Best Practice HR Tips from Liane Hornsey, Google VP Operations | Meet the Boss, it is true that Hornsey was a successful and talented worker and was able to benefit Uber with her great knowledge and experience. She had previously worked with Google, and I believe that from the great position that she had held as a VP of People’s operations. It is beneficial for a company to lose this type of talented manager as a result of bad character as it helps to show other employees that regardless of their position in the company, negative character will not be tolerated and hence encourage junior employees to behave better.
I believe resignation is the best solution in this instance as it helps solve the problem, and plus it had already negatively affected her reputation. On top of that, the accusations made against Hornsey were very serious and had already brought negative impacts to the Uber. By resigning, she saved herself the embarrassment and helped save the company’s reputation. If I was the CEO, would take the initiative to research the claims to confirm if they were right or wrong. After confirming, I would then take the initiative to address the matter publicly, which would involve filing the case in court if the worker in question really violated the company’s terms of work. This is because she was entrusted the position to properly handle the company and help it grow.
