Here’s what you should do when applying sealant:
- Carefully read and read the instructions.
Each sealant is slightly different from the other. For this reason, you should read the manufacturer’s instructions to achieve quality results for your project. Be sure to pay attention to important details, such as the most appropriate temperature and humidity recommendations for use.
- Ventilate the room.
In any room where you work, make sure that ventilation is sufficient by opening windows and doors where possible. You can also use an outdoor fan to facilitate the movement of air from the room to the outside area.
- When using epoxy sealant, mix the two parts together.
Epoxy sealants are supplied in two different containers, the contents of which must be mixed before use. In this case, you should pour the contents of the smaller container into the larger one and then mix thoroughly. You should mix them only if you are ready to start the application process. It is also important to note that you will have one hour or so to apply the epoxy. For this reason, you must be quick when working.
- Divide the coverage area into smaller sections.
For ease of use, it is recommended to divide the coverage area with sealant into four sections. You should start from the farthest section and head towards the door so that you do not have to walk on wet sealant.
- Use a small brush to seal the edges of the floor.
Take a brush from 5.1 to 7.6 cm wide and use it to apply sealant to the edges of the concrete floor, where a pillow or roller may not be pulled out. Be sure to apply even strokes when applying sealant.
- Apply sealant with a roller or paint brush.
Pour some sealant into the paint tray and then dip the roller or brush into the sealant. When using the roller, be sure to roll the brush evenly across the floor. Use a roller or brush to apply a thin layer of sealant to the edge that you have already painted.
Continue to apply sealant on the floor until you have covered the entire floor. When applying sealant, you must make sure that there is always a wet edge to continue. The reason for this is to achieve a uniform appearance on the floor.
Since you have already divided the room into smaller sections, you can work with each of them in due time. When applying sealant, make sure you evenly distribute it across the floor.
- Apply a second coat.
For a smooth and even coating, apply a second thin coat. To provide the best sealant coverage on the floor, you must apply a second coat at right angles to the first. Allow the sealant to dry for the time recommended by the manufacturer for the sealant before running or moving on concrete. You should be prepared to wait up to four days for the sealant to dry completely.
Sealing your concrete floors is a reliable way to extend their lifespan and increase their functionality. It’s good that you can easily complete the floor sealing project yourself. However, if you are not particularly confident in your independent work skills, you should hire an expert.
