Hill’s Model for Team Leadership
Leadership is an area of practical expertise that involves the capacity of an individual to lead others. Although there exist, several leadership models, the Hill Model of Leadership has become one of the best sources of success. Susan Hill developed it, it grants the leader a mental and moral compass to guide him in identifying team issues. This paper will focus on a soccer manager who successfully conquered his era using this method.
Zinedine Zidane is one of the best soccer players ever. He commands so much respect globally as a manager. At a club full of the best players in the world, how did Zidane do it? He carefully monitored each situation and correctly determined if it needed internal or external action (Northouse 2019). He held regular meetings to alleviate any tensions and excelled in individual man-management.
He regularly switched his methods and focused on external intervention. He appointed fitness coaches, specific doctor roles, psychiatrists, psychologists, chefs, nutritionists, among others, to ensure commitment and principled action. In the wake of any controversy, he solved it internally and publicly took the blame (Northouse 2019). He invested in team unity by regular trips and emphasized on team meals. Even more, he publicly praised his players at all turns. He did all these things at a high level while preaching cohesiveness and excellence.
I believe these skills can be valuable at the workplace by managing all conflicts internally and doing my best to balance the egos. Individual training and setting pf goals for juniors while representing my juniors buffers them from distractions and maximizes the skills and commitment of everyone.
Conclusively, when a leader adheres to the hill model, they significantly boost the team success and efficiency while achieving high performance.
