“Home” Essay

After watching the movie, I realized that every human action, plans, and strategies are linked to natural resources, earth, and the planet. The challenges we will face in the future will be like how people all around the world should concern more in “green” production. That is too much waste on the planet now, and we must change this as a human. The challenge will be how we can create a common belief in both production and consumption for further situations, even after the pandemic outbreak now. Next is the problem of rapid human population growth, such as food demand. It means meeting the increasing demand for food is probably the most fundamental challenge and environmental crisis, as it said in the movie. Then, water resource management: population growth and distribution have always been linked to the availability of freshwater and the sustainability of renewable water resources. The demand for water has grown significantly over the last 50 years, not only because of population growth but also because of increased water use for households, agriculture, and industrial production. Then, the challenge continues to the CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions have grown dramatically in the past century. It is because of human activity, as explained in the movie, chiefly the use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal as well as changes in land use such as cutting down forests (we can see the massive transformation from the movie). The challenge continues to deforestation: the loss of trees due to forests’ overcutting to accommodate the population.

The COVID-19 virus is a serious issue nowadays. It is spreading very fast and rapidly to each corner of the world. Based on my understanding and point of view, the impact on the environment can remain to be positive, given that human now learns lessons from the pandemic and behave consciously more hygienic towards the environment. Thus the new normal should be affecting the behavior of human beings. For me, the new normal is ourselves living in a society where the corona spread is still high. We need to be more vigilant than ever and try to figure out how we can survive. While waiting for the form of a vaccine, we can do the new normal by increasing or boosting our immunity power, inventing new ways to education, factory workshops, and trading. All in one to create new ways of running the economy flow and enjoy the beauty of this living being. First, be ‘careful’: every people should be careful about any droplets and avoid handshakes with others. As I am in the field of management or businesswoman, new normal should be reducing the number of offline meetings, or even there are offline meetings, keep distance within 1 meter is a must. Next, the use of medical masks, gloves, etc. are should face high necessity. At the new normal, I firmly believe hand sanitizers are the must-have items in a bag, and it must have higher demand these days. Then, there is no social gathering but social distancing. All marriages, festivals, the party will be reduced due to COVID-19, which is a significant loss for event planners, photographers, etc. For restaurants, it can only use 30% of its seating capacity to keep physical distancing with others. Then, checking body temperature to get into the public place will be a common thing to do.

As future generations, I surely can contribute to reducing climate change. First, plant more trees near the home area; this could help the three water cycle because the deforestation water cycle is affected. Second, stop using plastics bags (single-use plastic items like grocery bags, straws, plates, etc.) and use eco-friendly items. Third, reduce air pollution by using energy more efficiently and reduce the combustion of fossil fuels by using alternative energy sources. A reduction in air pollution can help in keeping climate change in check if done correctly. Forth, reduce carbon footprint, by waste fewer foods. It means buying and consuming only the food I eat is one of the easiest and most impactful ways to reduce carbon emissions. Next is by eating less meat, by reconsidering my transportation options: choose for public transportation whenever I can, bike and walk when I possibly can. Fifth, make every drop count- minimize the usage of water. Sixth, high-efficiency appliances, such as turn off the lamp and plug out the charger after I use it. Seventh, as millennials, I can utilize the use of my social media by starting movements and campaigns to spread awareness of climate change, which at the same time can put pressure on the people and governments to take any action, even just a little step.
