The presented statistics are based on a wide variety of factors; however, some did stand out. One of the statistics that stand out is the percentage of total patients that reported having received an explanation about the medicines before given to them. In the different hospitals that I used to compare, rates from both hospitals are below the national average and the regional average. The compared hospitals are located in Granada, California, in the US, therefore, based on that data, about 40% of all patients in the compared hospitals received medication without a clear explanation (The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2020). According to WHO, medicine administration should be a team activity, in that it should include both the healthcare worker and the patient (Bowen et al., 2017). Therefore, before giving any medication to a patient, clear communication between the patient and the healthcare worker is required, including the description or name of the administered drug. Therefore, the respective hospitals used for comparison are expected to improve on that sector.

Based on the comparison made, data on patients who reported that their rooms were always quiet are both below the national and regional average. More so, it is worrying that for all the hospitals involved in the comparison, those who reported quiet rooms were all below 50% (The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, 2020). Therefore, more than 50% of the total patients stay in rooms that are disruptive in a way. The acquired statistics indicate a problem in the healthcare sector since silence is one of the factors that should be implemented in hospitals around the country. Based on various studies, a quiet environment for patients is associated with quick recovery and pain relief (Hedges, Hunt & Ball, 2019). Therefore, all hospitals should strive to provide a quiet environment, especially in the different patient rooms, to ensure that they recover quickly.

The role statistics in patient care

I do believe that the analyzed statistics can play a significant role in patient care. These statistics paint a clear picture of the situation in different hospitals; therefore, mitigation measures can be formulated based on the data to address the specific drawbacks in healthcare. The quality of patient care is usually determined by the working environment of healthcare workers (Hughes, R. G. (2016). More so, this environment is generally comprised of complex interactions that may compromise the quality of patient care. Therefore, statistics on medication information given to the patient plays a role in patient care, since it is recommended that the medication given to the patient should be explained to them on various issues. There are excellent examples of these issues, and they include the side effects and what the medication will do to the body. With this knowledge, the patient is assured of physical well-being since any complications are well-informed of the probable causes related to medication (Bowen et al., 2017).

The statistics on patient rooms being quiet also plays a role in patient care. By definition, patient care incorporates the management, prevention, and treatment of illness and the maintenance of the patient’s both physical and mental health. Once the rooms where patients stay are not quiet, the patients fail to have access to their psychological well-being. According to Hedges, Hunt & Ball (2019), a calm environment in the hospital has a significant influence on the patients’ recovery rate since it also improves patient satisfaction. Therefore, through the statistics provided on the website, it is apparent that there is a need to improve on patient care since then in case of implementation of mitigation measures, the healthcare authority has accurate data on the situation on the ground.
