How to maintain a diverse and inclusive classroom.

Having a diverse and inclusive classroom setting will lead to helpful academic results and better relations for students of all backgrounds.  Allowing students the chance to connect with individuals of various races and financial statuses diminishes stereotypes and prejudice. Incorporated tutoring permits equal access to resources, facilities, and highly trained educators. To achieve this, the following are considered.

First, nurturing a community of learners in the classroom is essential. Encouraging students to work together, collaborate, and peer inclusion with their colleagues is encouraged. The learners will understand the need to work together, be involved, and become interested in learning the course content.

Secondly, for a class to be inclusive, it has to be lively and fun for every participant. Motivating students by providing rewards for the best-performing student or the most improved will encourage them to be involved in the classroom activities and be attentive. The professors can use validation practices, so the students can feel like they are a part of the learning process. This will build the confidence of the students in their education and encouraging participation openly in class. It will improve the students’ capacity to learn, and they will not fear looking incompetent when they ask questions.

Furthermore, embracing student diversity, including religion, ethnicity, language, sexual orientations, etc., is essential. Making an effort to know the student names is crucial. Using a universal language is good too. For example, avoid using masculine pronouns for both genders. Additionally, when using American phrases, the teacher needs to explain what they mean to benefit non-Americans or students from other races or ethnic groups. Learning and respecting different cultures will influence stereotypes and open the mindset of students. The students need to know that the staff can serve as a means to assist them to navigate concerns associated with discrimination and harassment.

Moreover, accommodating students with disabilities or those that are slow when learning is crucial. For instance, the teachers are encouraged to change the colors of slides to the ones that are less high-contrast. This will makes it less tiring to see and read, which is suitable for everyone. The family will have a role of inspiring students, encouraging them to interact with their classmates to build interpersonal relations with each other. Providing counseling, when needed, is good to keep the students going and performing in their academics. Some of the barriers to successful inclusion include the attitude of the students, the teacher, and parents. Parents fear letting children with disabilities go to classrooms; teachers fear that disabled children will sort of waste their time or keep other students from succeeding. The students themselves fear interacting with disabled students for the unknown.
