The article on pop culture reviews the influence of pop culture in American society. My initial response in my interaction with the text was that pop culture had played a significant role in the shaping of American society. Various issues have been mentioned in the text. One of the significant subtopics ion the texts is the civil war, which portrays the split in the American society in the social-political and institutional categories. These have been depicted in various Hollywood films. In this way, pop culture is portrayed as a communicative tool that creates awareness top the masses on the various issue that affect society.
The changes in American culture can be attributed to the industrial revolution that brought significant changes in terms of urbanization, industrialization, and technology. While initially, the U.S society was dependent on the plantations as the primary economic practices, the industrial revolution brought significant changes within the economy, which were accompanied by lifestyle changes and resulted in some of the issues such as class differences. The entertainment industry also went through a series of changes with the transition from the traditional forms of music such as the folklore music to the contemporary styles of music such as the rock ‘n’ roll.
From the text, I have learned the role of popular culture in shaping the idea and believes of the members of society. It has had a strong influence in both the social and political sectors in a way that most of the issues that people are involved ion, such as their purchasing preferences are influenced by popular culture. In this way, popular culture can, therefore, be used as a tool to create positive change in society by exploiting the influence it has on society.
