Academic integrity is the manner at which the students carry themselves in an educational environment either when they are undertaking and exam, research, or doing a project. Academic integrity has the following core values; honesty, responsibility, fairness, respect, and trust. If a person commits themselves to these values, then they are said to have academic integrity. Plagiarism is one of the aspects of academic integrity, and plagiarism means stealing, using, or presenting ideas, products, and words that are owned by someone else and claim to be ours. If one wants to write words that belong to someone else, they should quote and a piece of knowledge the person who said the words. Otherwise, the person can paraphrase the work which doesn’t need the acknowledgment of the person who owns the idea or concepts.
Scholarly sources use extensive references to give the origins of the work, and they include specialized vocabularies so that to support in-depth research. The sources have been reviewed by academic peers to make sure that the study gets relevant and updated references. The information from the scholarly sources helps us to discover what is between issues, events, and variables. General audiences use accessible sources, and they are used for entertainment purposes, informing as well as to persuade. The popular source is used to answer the questions with what, who, where, when, and how questions (Eaton et al.,2019). These help people to get information on the current issues and events, and they have a vast range from particular interest, research-oriented, and agenda-driven publications.
If someone wants to undertake research, they should get a topic that they wish to research on, they should look for a journal that contains the information they want to know about the problem (Selmer & McNulty,2017). They should understand the terminologies from the article they want to the user as their source of information. They should be able to follow the criteria required when researching so that they can be able to get information that is necessary for the topic they are studying.
