Language affects how people think and therefore initiates behaviors. It is a medium through which cultural knowledge is transformed. Language is connected with social psychology: personal identity, social perception, attitude change, social interaction, attribution, stereotyping and intergroup bias. Language is used daily to learn, negotiate, communicate, legislate, celebrate and argue.
Language as a communication tool impact young children greater because they don’t have knowledge on what society requires. Childs behaviors and thinking capacity improves when they are given freedom to express themselves in language. Children also learn to change people’s behaviors through the use of language. Through language, children are able to process information from mind s rather than from books.
Personal identity affects behaviors as it serves as a source of information where individuals plan to act. High personal identity usually creates positive attitudes and believes to control over given behaviors. Personal identity develops in the course of life and no one has control over them such as what one believes in which often affect the choices they make in life and their behaviors.
People’s behaviors can be activated in their memories through social perceptions. Social knowledge activated through use of language affects individual’s behavior, for example, understanding the dangers of tribalism can change an individual’s negative perception on other tribes.
Different ethnic groups have different attitudes towards some behaviors and objects. However, attitudes change with experience. For example, a lady who is raised to believe in abstinence before marriage can change to engage in premarital sex despite the social conviction. A persons cultural attitude can be improved or changed by right delivered massage in a good manner. Positive change of attitudes has helped in solving social problems like gender bias, racism and age discrimination.
When we interacts, our actions plays a big in our behaviors. Our understanding of things differ depending on one’s language group believe and the persons personality characteristics. Social interactions proves how other people can change ones behavior pattern. In a place on work for instance, a parent who doesn’t believe in children’s right of expression can be influence by his colleagues.
Language groups behave differently depending on how they interpret. People who believe they can change the bad situations around them are likely improve their environment than those who believe control is out of their hands. Different languages have assigned attributions on why they do things the way they do. Attribution is an explanation on why an event happened. If the individuals are able to understand these explanations, they can be in a position to control future events.
Tendency for the individuals in power or group of people to favor members of their ethnic groups also affect how individuals behaves. Out-group bias creates the negative feelings about people who does not belong to a given group. Out group bias enables the young ones to develop the characters of discrimination.
