impacts of sports individually and socially
Sports have been a meaningful part of society for many years now. Live broadcasting of games dates back to 1977 with Sports Channel Network being the first to air. Many sports channels have since then surfaced around the world with Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) being famous in the US. Live sports have proved that the sporting world has a large number of fans. Big games always have stadiums full of fans and tickets maxing out days before the games. Sports, however, have their impacts individually and socially.
The past two months have seen many countries going on lockdown. Most social events have been greatly affected, live sports being one of them. Big sporting organizations such as the UEFA, NBA, wrestling, Olympic games, among others, have postponed their matches due to the lockdown. This ban has dramatically had an impact on a large number of sports fans. Many fans on social media platforms have expressed their sadness in not having live sports. However, there is a positive experience in terms of social availability. Most people have now resolved to spend their time with family members and friends indulging in activities such as cooking together.
Life without live sport has had its impacts on society. Personally, my family and I have been Soccer fanatics for such a long time. We spent most of our leisure time streaming the games or otherwise watching the games live supporting our team. Although the ban of most live games has had its negative emotional impact on us, it has, however, made us realize how much we have missed socially as a family. We spent most of our time on different sports channels that we had forgotten the social family routines we had. The lack of social interaction attested in society at large, where neighbors and families are now spending more time together to pass the boredom.
These experiences have proved that sports have a more significant share of our social behavior. In the previous months before the lockdown, most sports fans dedicated their time entirely during live games. Stadiums and pubs would fill up with fans during live games. Additionally, some sports fans would stay up late to support their teams. We cannot deny the fact that sports brought social connectedness among its fans. However, from the experiences in the past couple of months, we can see that most fans spent their time on sports generously and neglected many other social activities. Generally, we learn that being glued to one favorite activity alone can have positive impacts, but also the adverse effects exist.
