IMPORTANCE OF HORROR MOVIES

Horror movies are loved as they are scary because it provokes positive emotions such as having fun with friends whereby the minds retain having a good time, rather than scared them. Many people are obsessed with watching carved pumpkins, haunted houses, crazy costumes, and scary movies with secrete desires for all the creepy and unusual things. There are numerous reasons why multiple individuals love scary movies, such as the exhilarating physical sensation they continuously experience after the movie ends (Curti, pg. 600).

I contend with King’s ideas that the excitation transfer process whereby an individual’s heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate increase after watching a frightening film. Therefore, when the movie ends, these physiological effects are noticed, whereby any positive emotions one experiences, such as having fun with friends, intensifies. Individuals seem to subconsciously associate their intense physical reaction to indicate excitement that tends to come back for more. (Curti, pg. 600).

Besides, the more fear an individual’s experiences, the more they are likely to enjoy the film. Horror movies help to conquer fears, thus making a man feel more masculine and brave. The element of actual danger in modern society has allowed discovering ways to enable primitive parts of the brain with the horror movies we watch. Lastly, people watch horror movies to understand the world around them, including our common fears, which is called morbid fascination. Thus, the horror movie addresses the archetypal fears as its fans are considered to become sensation-seeking personality types as people who enjoy the strong response and the high arousal. Lastly, those who watch scary movies build morbid curiosity and place our fears into context, providing a safer outlet for these people to explore understanding over other people (Curti, pg. 600).
