Innovation and modern technology
Technology and innovation have been a vital part of humans’ life since historical times. In the past, when people lived beside the rivers and lakes, it was necessary to develop simple technologies such as farming tools to enable them to grow more crops. With the current innovations and technological advancements, the world has transformed in many ways. In ancient times, people did not require sophisticated technologies because of the small population and plenty of natural resources. However, with the current increase in population and scarcity of resources, there is a need for technological advancements. For instance, as the population grew, towns were formed. Consequently, there was a need to develop technologies such as water supply systems to meet human water needs. Innovation and technology have been beneficial to humans since it has simplified the accessibility to education, healthcare, communication, transportation, among others. However, using it too often has negative impacts on society.
Innovation and technology have been a necessity in the current world because it has helped in addressing critical issues. For instance, innovation and techniques in the water sector, such as improving the water supply system has helped in solving the problems of water scarcity. With the increase in population, everyone can no longer live near rivers and water bodies. As such, it was necessary to develop sophisticated water supply systems to increase water availability in urban areas. Moreover, innovation and technology are essential because society focuses on economic growth. For economic growth, various techniques have to be introduced. For instance, to ensure more convenient access to goods services globally, there is a need to improve transport and communication technologies (Mosey, 2016). In response to these social and economic problems in society, innovation and technology are essential.
Technologies and innovations have positively affected the current society. The positive impacts of innovation and technologies can be felt in the education sector. For instance, the internet has made it possible for students to interact with their teachers from home. This is especially important during this period when social interaction is discouraged because of the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, by using the internet, students can easily research and finish their assignments on time. This implies that technology has helped in saving costs since students do not need to spend on transport to meet their teachers physically. Unlike in the past, when completing assignments took days, the internet has helped in saving time. Moreover, with technology, there has been significant improvements in the economic sector (Ndesaulwa & Kikula, 2016). For instance, the development in the transport sector has made it easier for companies to transport and access goods on time not only locally, but also on a global level. Also, companies can market their products efficiently and cost-effectively online. Innovation has also helped in improving the health care system. For instance, improvements in medical researches has helped in introducing more effective treatments and healthcare practices.
Even though technology has been helpful, it has also negatively affected humans. For instance, the internet has been beneficial in the education sector. However, it has reduced face-to-face communication. This has affected people’s social health, especially children who now heavily rely on social media to make friends. As a result, there has been the rise of cyberbullying. Internet addiction has also caused health issues such as obesity since children no longer engage in more physical activities. Furthermore, innovation and technology have negative impacts on employment, primarily if companies rely on machines rather than human resources (Sener & Saridogan, 2017).
Conclusively, innovation and technology are meant to improve people’s lives globally. As such, people should try to improve on things that are within their spheres of influence. Small improvements and innovative ideas can be helpful to many people in the future. Even innovation plays a significant part in humans’ lives; it is crucial to avoid overreliance on it. For instance, people should not forget the fact that face-to-face interaction is still essential. This will help in improving social lives, which is currently affected by technology.
