Insights of gaming among the youth

Over the past few decades, the holistic advancement in online technology has triggered the urge of most young people to engage in gaming and betting platforms across the globe. Further, the popularity and attractions towards gambling are also motivating many people to venture to this avenue to make vast amounts of returns from betting. However, the majority of young people tend to develop on the culture of betting, which adversely impedes with their overall well-being in society. This paper primarily focuses on a detailed comparison of the insights of gaming among most young people across the globe.

According to the readings from chapter 9 of The Sociology of Gambling, a significant cohort of the youth across the world engage in gaming activities including lottery and online gambling which are common among most young people in the world. Additionally, the majority of the child participate in gaming activities without the consent of their parents, making this a continuous endeavor, consequently affecting their studies. Further, the first exposure to betting has made gaming addictive to most adolescents, making it a usual activity to engage in alongside other routines in their lives (Aasved, 2003). Furthermore, the probability of people to gamble tends to increase with age despite most betting avenues being an illegal activity among the youth in numerous jurisdictions across the world. Studies have proven that the tendency of adolescents to engage in gambling is high in the boys compared to the girls across most jurisdictions in the world.

Additionally, studies have proven that a significant cohort of young people venture in gaming activities at their adolescent age with boys having the leading trend of engaging in diverse forms of betting endeavors. Further, gender differences have prevailed in the betting sector, with most males having the prominent tendency to participate in various types of betting compared to females. Furthermore, despite gaming being an illegal affair in most jurisdictions across the world, older adolescents tend to risk vast amounts of money in betting compared to younger children (Aasved, 2003). Further, the engagement of younger children in gambling is usually associated with the unfulfilled longing for the children to parental love and attachments, ultimately forcing them to embark on gaming activities instead. However, most researchers have developed scholarly associations of gambling to specific behavioral characteristics of a particular population in our society.

According to the video clip provided, the majority of the youth engage in gaming activities on online platforms as part of their leisure activities but later advance their gaming capacities to make money. Further, a significant section of young people is regular to betting activities with their growing curiosity to make money (Young Gamblers, 2014). Additionally, sports betting are the typical form of gambling among young people triggered by the rampant platforms of sporting activities across many nations. Furthermore, the engagement of numerous youths in the betting platforms are usually facilitated by the money they acquire from their parents. More so, relatives and parents also play a significant role in growing younger children’ interests in gaming. Further, gambling activities are perceived as a recreational activity among other young people depending on the nature of their family backgrounds.

However, gambling is a very sophisticated activity to engage in as it impacts negatively to the lives of most young people due to the advance in their interests to gaming to make more money. The problem, gambling has been proven to be addictive and lead to many people losing their money with the intent of doubling their money through gaming. Additionally, despite gambling among the young people being illegal across various jurisdictions in the world, a significant section of the youth engage in gaming regularly both for fun and motives to make more money. Nevertheless, gambling has continuously been associated with drugs and alcohol abuse despite the insights of many people to invest their money in significant betting avenues (Young Gamblers, 2014). Further, most youths find themselves in dilemmas after spending part or even the whole amounts of money given to them by parents to support their education in betting activities. Gender differences is another aspect that is vital in betting platforms with the male placed at the forefront of gaming compared to females.

However, according to the findings from our studies, it is evident that more males are engaged in betting activities compared to women. Furthermore, according to the conclusions of both readings gambling is a social activity that most young people join in their teenage and are unable to leave this avenue due to addiction and influence from friends and close family members. Additionally, gambling has been pointed out as an illegal activity amongst the youth across most jurisdictions across the world despite the growing interests of the child to engage in these platforms. However, the findings from the readings in our book point out that gambling has continued to be associated with people into drugs and alcohol contrary to the interviews conducted in the video clip.

Further, a significant section of gamblers join these platforms at their teenage due to high levels of curiosity from some of their parents and close friends who participate in betting. Additionally, both findings illustrate that the unfulfilled parental love and attachments to most children make them venture in betting to utilize a significant part of their free time. More so, the findings from the video clip indicate that gambling is perceived as a recreation activity in other families, therefore, making way for the children to engage in such activities. Furthermore, gaming has been identified as an activity that leads to misuse of cash by most gamblers with their insights that they can invest part of their money in gaming. Additionally, the two readings indicate that parental facilitation triggers the urge of numerous young people to engage in gambling avenues.

Conclusion

Combatively, the findings from our studies indicate that gaming has become so rampant among most young people across the globe. Further, the results point out that the unfulfilled longing for parental love for most children triggers their interests to join various gaming platforms. Additionally, varying degrees of behavioral characteristics among adolescents also contributes to their engagement in betting arenas. Furthermore, the majority of young people acquire financial facilitation from their parents, ultimately increasing their urge to participate in betting to earn more money. However, many children find themselves in gambling at their teenage due to influence by friends or even close relatives and at the latter stuck to it due to the high levels of addiction to gambling.
