Integrating technology into the education system
ABSTRACT
Introduction of technology into the education system was a measure that resulted to both positive and negative impacts towards education. The education sector embraces this idea for basic, tertiary, and technical levels. The major technological implementation in classrooms has been the use of computers and electronic devices. These technologies range widely in computers and electronics.
Integration of computers by both teachers and students in the system has called for development of advanced software and hardware that are more interactive. According to Monica Patrut, Bogdan Patrut (2013), examples of these advanced technologies used in school systems include; social media :Websites, blogs, web cameras. Audio enhancements, phones, desktops, laptops, projectors, tablets, and display screens (Gary B. Shelly, Glenda A. Gunter, Randolph E. Gunter 2012).This paper focuses on the use of social media in higher education: web 2.0(Patrut 2013) and use of tablets in schools .Both of these technology measures in education systems have positive and negative results toward education.
Web 2.0 in higher education
Web 2.0 is a website version, advanced with tools that enable the world to use applications on website. As part of social media technology being used in higher education, web 2.0 has enabled use of interactive tools.it allows users to express opinions and suggestions on various topics. The web tools invade our lives differently on a day-to-day basis qualifying it to create awareness effectively. This reason encouraged administrators and teachers in universities and colleges to considered it a perfect opportunity for a developed teaching measure (Patrut 2013).
. Examples of web 2.0 include; google documents, blogs, video sharing, web content management, social bookmarking, 3D virtue worlds, wikis, news ranking, and sharing. (Cuzman, 2010).
Implementation of web 2.0 in universities by transmitting data through social media and web 2.0 tools has proved less costly.
Different models of e learning and a framework, known as 2.0 framework, supports university research and teaching.
The Universities implements eLearning through blog, chat, forum, wiki, social network (O’Reilly, 2005, 2007) as the model to teach marketing information system (MIS).According to Tsiakis (2013) MIS raises effective activities in marketing. Information and communication technologies (ICT) can result to the success of a marketing strategy while it can also set a new set of rules in marketing. Social media is the technology that transmits data in all direction and fast. The social media tools/web 2.0 tools supports the pedagogical process.Proffessionals in marketing need information to increase productivity, predict changes in the demand of a product, incease productivity in sales and the expenses for distribution.research ,storage and dissemination of information is important in the business world. The social media and web 2.0 advanced tools has not only improved learning for the marketing students but has made it easy for marketing and sales resources to be accessed.
