Investigation of Professional Journals

For this study, I decided to investigate the following three nursing journals. The first nursing journal reviewed the Approach Towards the Development of Talents (Johnson, 2020). The second journal reviewed the State of Healthcare Workers That Results to Stress, Moral Injury, and Burnout (Ford, 2019). The third journal focused on Stress Among Healthcare Professionals (Hofmann, 2018). After investigating the journals above, I realized that the criteria used to select the work to be published the same.

The first criterion used to publish the journals was Scientific Rigor. It is the quality of work obtained after evaluating if the work had adhered to the set standards and best practices of research (Birken et al., 2017). Quality of work includes; work that is free of plagiarism, well-labeled tables, and figures, current and comprehensive references, data that is valid, reliable, and accurate. The second criterion is Editorial Quality, which emphasizes the absence of grammar, misspellings, punctuation errors, and sound clarity, and good cohesiveness. Editorial quality ensures that quality work is ready for publishing.

The following criterion was ethics, which involves ensuring that work to be published includes information on issues such as conflict of interest, plagiarism, confidentiality, fraud, data manipulation, and other ethical considerations. The final process includes; the criteria used for peer review, time frames for the peer review, and handling the peer review process by the editorial board.

To meet the above process criteria, I would ensure that: I engage in intensive and extensive research to provide that the source of information I use is up-to-date, credible, and accurate. I would also proofread my work several, and effectively engage a trusted expert writer to review my work to ensure it is free of grammar and punctuation errors. I would make sure that I properly cite and reference all the information sources used. Besides that, I would work hard to avoid academic crimes such as plagiarism and engage an expert who is well-known for publishing excellent articles for a better review.

The challenges perceived in getting work published in the journals include; High Costs-Publishing a journal is costly, particularly from the for-profit commercial publisher (Thomas et al., 2016). Another problem is delays by the publisher to publish the article, which makes the article outdated by the time it is published. Also, the exponential growth of scientific publishing made it quite hard for a researcher to find the right publisher.

The three ethical considerations in research and knowledge acquisition and sharing are; Respect for the dignity of research participants, Risk minimization of harm to participants, and Protection of anonymity and the confidentiality of participants (Johnson, 2017).
