IoT smart parking systems

Introduction

The integration of smart parking technology in urban transport arrangements has become more fascinating as it responds to the increasing requirement for the government to incorporate IT-enabled in the transport department. Since time and cost are two critical aspects of anyone’s life, and no one wishes to be delayed at any given time. Every day the world’s populace is on a rising, and the metropolis and towns are growing bigger to accommodate these residents. This has made the government explore a comprehensive means to address this problem of congestion in what is popularly regarded as smart cities. This implies that lacking a parking space contributes to many of the drivers driving around the town looking for parking, and the majority end up parking in places that are either set aside for those with disabilities or inappropriate parking. The outcome of this incidence is impulsive congestion during the rush hours when most of the population is leaving the town. City land arrangement requires a parking control system to help it control the city space economically and carefully. Thus, collecting data and guiding drivers on the appropriate timing and space accessible for parking has become an issue for many city developers. This study strives to assess data collection approaches used by different IOT technology espoused in different settings.

Moreover, the proposed study strives to evaluate the intricacy that involves the application of IoT smart parking systems compromising software and hardware and also paying processes involved in every order. Precisely, the proposed research will explore the incorporation of three aspects that are entailed in the IoT smart parking structure. To begin with, it will examine the broadcasting wave bands’ rage and forms, the compatibility of the IoT use on consumers’ gadgets, and lastly, the efficiency of accurate computing the parking fee mode of billing, and controlling of the cars in the parking.

Annotated Bibliography

Adryan, B., Obermaier, D., & Fremantle, P. (2017). The Technical Foundations of IoT. Artech House.

The article introduces us to a technical introduction to parts, design, software, and processes of iOS.  Moreover, the report explores the physics of electricity and electromagnetism, setting the ground for comprehending the components of advanced electronics and calculating. This book is appropriate in our study as it provides understanding into the software components that interrupt on IoT solutions, expansion, network procedures, data analytics, backend software, and technical interoperability, this partially responds to our study question and thus appropriate for the study.

Mainetti, L., Marasovic, I., Patrono, L., Solic, P., Stefanizzi, M. L., & Vergallo, R. (2016). A Novel IoT-aware Smart Parking System based on the integration of RFID and WSN technologies. International Journal of RF Technologies7(4), 175-199.

The article states that facilitating sustainable mobility is one of the critical objectives of what is mostly considered as a Smart Cities vision. In this view, the placement of intelligent parking structures represents a primary element. This article is appropriate in our studies as it explores the new IoT-aware Smart Parking System founded on the universal application of various innovations, for instance, mobile, MFC, WSN, and RFID. To minimize the general system expenses, the probability of applying a solar RFID tag as a vehicles’ sensing system has been presented, which adds to our research question.

McQueen, B. (2017). Big Data Analytics for Connected Vehicles and Smart Cities. Artech House.

This text presents information about the use of big data analytics to connected smart cities, vehicles, and transportation structures.  This book provides valuable information on how data analytics can and will enlarge the architecture and engineering of connected smart cities and cars. This text will help in responding to the question of how well governments are prepared to embrace this new technology.

Rao, T. V. N., Shaik, K. S., & Goud, P. B. K. (2017). Cloud Enabled Smart Parking System Based on the Internet of Things. International Journal of Advanced Research in Computer Science8(3).

The article posits that the idea of smart cities has attracted much attention these days. The article proceeds by noting that Smart Cities effectively apply the Internet of Things to control their assets. Moreover, it states that the primary challenge experienced in modern days attributed to development in vehicle parking, which represents thirty percent of the average traffic congestion. This article, appropriate in our studies, recommends some of the solutions of easing city congestion by integrating IoT with the cloud to offer sufficient storage capacity, scalability, accessibility, calculation capacity, and interoperability. This article emphasizes primarily on minimizing the time to locate the parking spaces, which eventually reduces the environmental problems, thus suitable for this study.

Weber, M., & Podnar Žarko, I. (2019). A regulatory view of smart city services. Sensors19(2), 415.

The article observes that the lack of a Smart City control framework is one of the main hindrances for a comprehensive implementation of Smart City services in practice. This article provides essential information on the classification of regulatory and technical features of IoT services to Smart Cities, which are plotted to matching roles in the IoT value chain. This response to the second research question. Besides, the assessment and recommendations presented to act as an illustration of good practice in anticipation that they will enable a comprehensive implementation and durability of IoT Smart City services.
