Is it acceptable to use the “N” word?
Over several decades, most US citizens have been using the N-word in their daily conversation wherever they talk. Culturally, people tend to draw some lines between some particular words people contemplate to be cursed or can be merely disrespectful. Racial defamations are generally categorized as offensive words, but when it touches the so-called “N” word, that category tends to be indistinguishable. The N-word was used to differentiate and degrade a race that was thought to be subservient. Still, black Americans nowadays use the N-word initially developed to demean a particular race as a sweet talk term. Black Americans have various definitions to transform its negative implication into a positive one accepted in the US.
N-word is believed to have been changed in meaning and may only be termed as a racial insult if used by an individual from a different race in a not appropriate context. For instance, if a word’s suffix ends in “-a” and not “-er” and is pronounced by a white individual, it will be regarded as offensive. Professor Nathaniel Norment Jr. says in a quote that, “ in a misinformed manner, the Black Americans gave out the idea to substitute the negative connotation meaning of the N-word in the face of white racism and negative images that are displayed in most Hollywood series and the media houses.” The N-word is still not acceptable to use because it is still confusing many people depending on how others use it and the situation under which it is used. The N-word is offensive and provocative by both Motion Pictures Association and Federal Communications Commission. They both found the N-word restricted when used in broadcast media like radio and Television stations, giving enough proof that the word is still highly rated as a derogatory word. It shows that even if the blacks are trying to figure it a fresh, it will always be unacceptable to use.
Consequently, the N-word, which was commonly used to describe black Americans, is only a racial insult used against the minority group. It tried to suppress more in the media platforms. But this has never been the case for lesser groups labelled with racial discrimination conditions in the US. It shows why black Americans adopt the N-word differently since it is used almost on every platform like the music industry, cinemas and television networks. The blacks have commonly used the N-word more disturbingly, mostly in their conversation, which possesses many risks and issues between them and the whites who initially used the word to demean African-American society.
The N-word usage in America by the African American s became a less-issue which was viewed as a trend that was brewing more issues. When the N-word was utilized with increased passion, for instance, used by the same African American in a way that does not inflict a racial slur. It aroused a more significant confusion to other minor races who also experienced demeanour. It would make the other race, whether abused or not, to think that it is to use the same N-word in the same way, but this would upset the black Americans, destroying their relationship. An act of parliament should be put in place to regulate the use of the N-word within the racial cultures to avoid confrontations that might arise due to its use. No individual should be allowed to use the N-word, whether a politician, musician or any other individual, because it has and will always be displeasing racial discrimination against the African American race. The government should begin public sensitization through different programs and community-based groups to educate the community on the impacts of the N-word usage, which remains a racial slur to African Americans.
The education department removed classic American novel from their curriculum to reduce the exposure of the use of inflammatory language to the youths who worked but not much. Most pop artists tend to use the n-word, which goes out to many college and university youths. It gives the students easy access to hearing the n-word, but it is not a call to use it anyhow. In the US, most white individuals who have African American friends do not permit the usage of the n-word by relationship. Most societies are required to begin contemplating their actions towards racial slurs since they are embarrassing others. Americans are typically given freedom of speech, allowed to hurl insults and make cards to express their emotions and feelings towards something, but no law guarantees the use of the N-word.
Although most ignorant people might expose their reaction by uttering the N-word, which looks to be so sensitive, It generally develops to an intolerable irritation when used by an individual who is not black. N-word has been regarded in some states as the filthiest, dirtiest, nastiest word ever to have existed in English as most psychologists view it as a mockery or an attack on the African Americans. Only the black Americans are allowed to use that word as it is suggested that anyone can mention it in their heads as they might desire but not uttering it out.
In conclusion, it is not acceptable to use the N-word anywhere as it only sparks feelings due to its offensive nature. I have been listening to songs containing the N-word, but I also remain calm when black Americans also use it in music. African Americans should come together to determine the power in the word and stop using it in their conversations.
