IS THERE AN END TO RACE AND RACISM?

The siege on racism is on the rise again across the world. What can the governments, individuals, and religious platforms do to overcome this sickness among people? People equate being from different parts of the world to being white or black, which is very wrong. A minority of people hold such beliefs, but it is sadly a significant section. When will the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement end and give way for free socialization worldwide?

Sharelle Barber’s 2020 Death by Racism article, “The Lancet Infectious Diseases,” she uses the death of George Floyd, who is suffocated by a police officer for 8 minutes and 46 seconds by lodging his knee into Floyd’s neck to show an example of how blacks experience terror and are on the verge of quitting to the situation. This police brutality on blacks is horrific by itself. It has sparked a global outrage to show that as much as only a small proportion of people show racist behavior, most care and show concern about the issue. With Blacks shouldering a massive burden out of the Covid-19 pandemic, racism on its own has wreaked havoc in most of their communities. Modern systems from health care basis and housing to carceral states are all embedded in white supremacy and are being maintained by policies that call for inequitable access to Black people’s positions, power, and resources. Black people remain on the straining side to feel accepted in the society they live in.

Luigi Esposito’s article, Benevolent Racism and The Co-Optation of The Black Lives Matter Movement, “The Western Journal of Black Studies,” with Black Lives Matter movement being illuminated all over including in football games, there are efforts that are trying to discredit the movement. This is what Esposito and Romano refer to as Benevolent Racism. As much as related bodies are trying to bring the world as one, other groups are on the rise to undermine this plight. Esposito and Romano use benevolent racism to show how racial inequality is dodged and justified behind a frontage of modern color blindness and racial unbiasedness. They offer the reader that fighting racism is always done to condemn it but legitimize and uplift racist attitudes and policies or behaviors. It is like it is ending, but again, in the background, it is growing. Based on this concept, the Black Lives Matter movement seems to inadvertently execute benevolent racism by disregarding the campaign’s aims while overthrowing its objective of promoting racial justice.

Andreja Zevnik’s 2017, Postracial Society as Social Fantasy: Black Communities Trapped Between Racism and a Struggle for Political Recognition article, “Political Psychology,” explains how ideologies against racism have become politicized while at the same time it pervades political categories such as citizenship. Zevnik aims the reader to understand how Blacks are taken as misfits amidst White political classes. Zevnik also uses the psychoanalytical ideologies of Franz Fanon and W.E.B.Du Bois shows the reader much of the Black person’s impracticability when squeezed in the same corner with the racially biased White political categories.

As much as the fight against racism is on the rise, let us not forget the societal relations and norms. Police brutality is being used as a pillar to reinforce racism across the globe. Most police brutality victims may not have reported the incident simply because of fear or mistrust towards the police unit. It is high time everyone feels safe and protected by our forces. The death of Black Americans such as Floyd has led to weeks of protests in the United States against racism and is still prompting more countries to challenge discrimination in society. Even though the minority group holds most cards towards racism, we have to fight this belief at all costs.  The luxury of ignorance is the running force to portraying racism. From this, too few understand the idea of navigating across a given country as a black person.

The world may not understand what it is to be affected by racial influence. The challenge that the world faces is turning anti-racism into action. By burying down benevolent racism, everyone is allowed to exist, strive, and be safe. While encouraging for rights to the Black person, the set up has to be in a modest way that does not incline some people’s categories aside. Even the best intentions are null if they are presented to demolish the build bonds indirectly. Moreover, everyone has to be assured of safety as we uphold public values and not skin color.

Politics has been a mediocre type for a long time, and with people relying on the government for help, disappointments do occur. The denial of citizenship, travel visas, or deportation of people based on racial differences shows that even racism at the political level is unsettled. Political groups need to lead by example by executing unbiased training to all staff. Legal restrictions should not block limit directorate positions. Uniformity in almost all aspects is one way to reduce racism at a high rate.

Finally, we observe the rule of law be observed with ultimate honesty. The legislation is never enough if racism keeps on across law enforcement agencies, employment, education, and health. Every organization has the mandate to provide professional services to everyone regardless of their color, culture, or ethnicity. Racism is complicated, and ending it remains a debatable matter depending on our mindset and perspective towards other people.
