   IT Position

ABSTRACT

Currently, unemployment affects most graduates. In the current global economy, graduates must be creative and find ways to set themselves apart when seeking employment. Most, however, fail to cut by either having the skills required or by poor communication skills during the job interview, therefore not convincing the interviewer that they are the most reliable client. In this paper, I take part in a mock interview for an Information Technology position in an organization. I must demonstrate why I am the best candidate and the unique skills and qualifications I possess that make me the perfect fit for the job. I will also examine what I have done to prepare for my role as an IT specialist and why I believe I am better than my competitors.

I believe I am the best candidate for this Information Technology position due to the following reasons. To begin with, this is my dream job. This IT job will require me to spend significant time working with hardware and software while also being an assistant to people who use the company software (Davies, 2008). My extroverted personality boosts my communication skills, making it easier for me to interact with users who lack adequate knowledge of computer terminology to describe problems their computers or computing devices are facing. When it comes to problem-solving in IT, there has never been one go-to solution. During my time working with computer systems and networks, I have found ways to track down the source of a problem faster and appropriate actions to fix it.

If hired, I will be working presumably in the support team. To efficiently do my job, I will need to interact with others to discover and fix technical issues. As mentioned earlier, my communication skills are one of my strong assets as they make me a team player who is willing to work under others to achieve goals. The technological world is ever-changing as emerging trends come and integrate into our daily lives and how we fix problems. In the industry, it is rare to have a situation with only one solution. Having the ability to stay focused in stressful situations makes me able to prioritize and make me dependable on the team. It is easy to become overwhelmed with responsibilities; this is why my time management skills are valuable to the company. I believe in getting the job done by strict schedules and doing whatever is necessary. This includes working overtime.

In the workplace, employees always describe IT, specialists, as arrogant and condescending. This is because most specialists are unable to continuously deal with the rest of the employees as they tend to ask the same questions repeatedly and fail to solve simple computer errors. Due to my empathetic nature, I am unable to understand the frustration one can get when handling something they don’t understand. In the workplace, workers deal with their own work deadlines and personal lives. I always keep this in mind when dealing with users because it’s much easier to communicate if you put yourself in their shoes (Schwalbe, 2019).

Having a degree in IT and an ITIL Foundation has prepared me for this position. I also recently got my MCSE certification. From a young age, I have been committed to learning new things daily. I have an understanding of the code-writing process and have knowledge of various coding languages like HTML, C++, and Java, among others. My curious nature made me gain knowledge about networking, which I believe is necessary for any IT professional. I possess knowledge of leading business apps, currently, for example, CODA and SharePoint. I have done extensive study on mainstream mobile operating systems like the IOS and Android (Davies, 2008).

I find myself fortunate to have taken part in an internship and a work-study where major tasks included testing, maintaining and monitoring computer programs and systems, and expanding the IT system to serve more efficiently to increase workflow. Having the responsibility to ensure the computer security of the company allowed me to develop my leadership skills in a busy, fast-paced environment. I can speak three languages: English, Arabic, and Spanish. I am currently learning American Sign Language. During my college years, I underwent first aid training, enabling me to be of assistance during emergencies (Peterson et al., 2010).

I am not familiar with your other candidate for this position. I am confident in your selection criteria when considering a large number of talented people for the job. However, I am also confident that, given my unique background and experiences, I am a strong candidate for this position. I have valuable interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with people from all backgrounds and have respect for all genders. My discipline and hard work have enabled me to develop and apply my skills and attributes. My former employers regarded me as dependable and accountable as in all my assigned tasks. I ensured quality work and timely delivery. As a team leader, I ensure each team member can express their ideas and suggestions in a positive conducive work environment, and if a conflict occurs, it is resolved as quickly as possible not to affect workflow (Block & Betrus, 2004).

In conclusion, thanks for your time and consideration. I hope to bring my industry experience and experience to your organization, where I will put in the work and continue to grow in IT. I can be reached by phone or email if you need any other information.
