Jealousy

Jealousy is a complex emotion that involves a feeling of suspicion, rage, fear, and humiliation. It attacks individuals of all ages, sexual orientations, and gender. It is mostly stimulated when people identify a threat to a treasured relationship from a third party. The risk may be either imagined or real. Most individuals have been in jealousy situations at one time or another.

One time when I experienced jealousy was when I broke up with my boyfriend. Even though I was aware that my relationship with him was over, my feelings for him were still powerful. Whenever I saw him with his new girl, I would feel so envious. Then one day, I saw them in a store where we used to go shopping when we were still together. His new girlfriend was a bleached-blond lady who perfectly applied makeup, spent hours deciding on an outfit, and sprays every inch of their hair right. My self-esteem was very low, I knew that I looked like a bag woman, my hair was greasy and unwashed, and my nose had turned red from cold. I approached him, snapped his hat, and ran outside the store. I ran and leaned onto his car, and I began crying uncontrollably. I felt as if I was running out of my mind. After a while, I realized that I wasn’t myself, and I rushed to my home, where I took a close look at his photos, then deleted them from my computer.

I responded to this jealousy in two ways. The first one was meditation. Through meditation, I learned that only I and my thoughts could give power to my thought and bring them into reality. Meditation provides an individual with the opportunity of learning how to allow ideas to go in and out, to come and go. It taught me how to let it go. The other method was exercising a lot, more than usual. Exercises get the blood pumping and lungs going, allowing an individual to release negative energy. By the end of the exercise, I could be too tired to be jealous, to keep resentment or negative feelings, or to care for anything that could bother me. Besides, intense exercise produces hormones like endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, which are very beneficial to the body.

My ex-boyfriend did not play to my jealousy. He ignored my jealousy actions and went on with his new fiancée. I think it was the best reaction. People often think that jealousy is proof that your ex has feelings for you. However, being jealous is not a guarantee that they won’t repeat the same mistake that caused their broke. Actually, most of the sexual relationships where the individuals got back together after a break up do not last forever. I felt good that my ex did not tolerate my jealous behavior. This reaction had a positive effect on my relationship with my ex-boyfriend, as it motivated me to move on. Later on, I was able to get another partner whom we are still on a relationship.

Jealous is the worst way that many people try to use to achieve their goals. Proofs from daily life and history show that jealousy can create rivalry and destroy friendships. Unless we avoid this emotion and take the success of others as motivation and model of making progress, we will never get what we want.
