Re: Health Program Specialist
Red ID:
Position Number:
Dear Sir/Madam:
I’m writing to inquire for the position of Quality Improvement Specialist – Ambulatory Care (#16016). I am confident that my skills are well-aligned with the role, and that I would be an excellent fit for your organization. My background consists of working at the NYS Cancer Registry/ Health Research Incorporated as a Central Registry Cancer Specialist II. I consolidate multiple reports from facilities across the state, perform quality reviews, abstract data for small facilities with no registry staff, and consult on data use and research.
The CCR uses these data for population-based cancer incidence rates, research, and to plan and evaluate cancer
control programs. As a Central Registry Cancer Specialist I manage and analyze cancer data, I perform record consolidation where the cases of cancer are counted only once by compiling data obtained from multiple reporting sources on the same tumor. I review each case, identify discrepancies, and consolidate the data into one record that contains the most accurate and complete information.
I have coding experience working at St. Peter’s Hospital’s outpatient and inpatient laboratory for five years. There I gained knowledge and experience in specimen collection, spinning blood down in the centrifuge, receiving, venipuncture, ordering lab tests, registering specimens/patients into the OAS gold system.
I utilized knowledge of location codes, patient demographics, insurance codes, health insurance, physician codes, unaffiliated doctors, ICD-9 diagnosis codes and group accounts to facilitate processes/registered patient/specimen in timely manner. Properly identified and verified demographics and financial data for patients. I answered phones, gave lab results to medical doctors and nurses upon request. I also performed many customer service, administrative, QA and QC tasks.
I have successfully completed my Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology. I believe that my experience and training as a lab assistant II and a Central Registry Cancer Specialist II will guide me on to the next step to be successful in this job field. I am ready to move on so I may learn new skills and add to what I have learned from St. Peter’s Hospital, NYS Cancer Registry and my education from SUNY Albany.
I will be a good fit for this position due to my organizational, working independently with others, being a team player, strong communication skills (verbally and written), interpersonal skills, punctuality, professionalism, and my capacity to learn new tasks and procedures. I am ready and willing to learn to take-on innovative challenges that will help me develop new technical skills.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I hope to be given the opportunity to interview with you and to gain a chance to show IPRO what I have to offer. I wish to grow mutually together and expect positive outcomes.
Sincerely,
Samantha M. Nguyẽn
