I learnt that stereotyping and social distance are the social cultural factors affecting second language learners in the classroom include. With, stereotyping teachers and other students have a standardized image about second language learners restricting their learning. When the social distance between the two cultures is greater, difficulty in learning tends to be grater.
While exploring the Issues and challenges of diversity and social cultural factors in second language accusation I came across cultural stigmatization and ethnic profiling. I found that stigmatization often takes the form includes bullying and teasing and it is common amongst learners on the basis of being different. Ethnic discrimination occurs in schools as some teachers and students often target children who look and act differently.
I was intrudes to know that, culturally, and linguistically diverse leaners have differing needs, styles, backgrounds, and expectations. Concerning background, they have different history, religion, and language and their needs include varying levels of knowledge and skills. Diverse leaners respond to learning styles based on their cultures. Thus, some students may respond to the multimodal learning style while others might respond to the formal one. While some of them have high expectations for language development, others expect a monolonguist norm.
Surprisingly, conflicting preference of actors in educational system and allocation of power in the schools affects which learning policies are established. Often inclination for language policies in school is linked to stability and efficiency. Since the use of several languages in hits efficacy and stability due communication and teaching material costs school policies established might have detrimental effects on language development.
I was shocked to find innate linguistic knowledge, cognition and social context enhance language development. Innate knowledge of various linguistic principles, constrains, and rules constitutes the initial stage of language development while cognition enhances the ability to learn a new language. A supportive social context offers the motivation to learn a new language.
