Kinmen research

Abstract.

Kinmen, also called Quemoy, is an island and a county-administered by Taiwan’s government, and it is located near the Chinese city known as the Xiamen. For a long time, the Island was a cold war zone in August and September 1958 when the Chinese communist army mainly surrounded it as part of the second crisis experienced in Taiwan. The highest restored civilian administration in the year 1993.  Before this, Kinmen Island and how it experienced travel restrictions and movement. The paper explores the intricacies on Kinmen Island as a battlefield of the tourist attraction. The case confronts the typical island lure of the sun and the sea and creates an opportunity for some positioning in the global tourism market.  The discussion will reveal the importance of the unique characters of this Island in localization of the development agenda of the projects in terms of geographical landscape identity.

Introduction

Kinmen, also called Quemoy, is an island and a county-administered by Taiwan’s government, and it is located near the Chinese city known as the Xiamen. For a long time, the Island was a cold war zone in August and September 1958 when the Chinese communist army mainly surrounded it as part of the second crisis experienced in Taiwan. The county is consistent with the great Kinmen and the lesser Kinmen.  It is considered one of the two counties that is part of the disbanded Fujian province of the republic of china. The Island is located only about a kilometer east of Xiamen’s mainland city, and its strategic position reflects a significant change of the cross-strait relations from the battlefield to the trading points.  This county is claimed by the people of the republic of china as well as the people of Taiwan. It covered an area of about 150 kilometers and has a population of over 72000.  The research will presents why the areas become under the military and the implication of this control to both the indigenous and the tourist who frequently visit this area.  Most research has looked at the importance of the area, but they have failed to analyze their importance in terms of how it affects the region’s people. For a long time, China has used this region for its military practice, a fact that the Taiwan government has opposed constantly because they feel they are the rightful owners of their area.

Study objectives:

The research will seek to investigate and discuss factors and efforts made by tourism planners in establishing the wellness of this Island.  The researcher will achieve this by conducting a detailed analysis of how they represent the Island military both in the past and in the present.

Secondly, the research will investigate how local entrepreneurs’ business innovations and tourist behavior have contributed to Kinmen Island’s sustainability.

Lastly, the researcher will seek to investigate the effects made by the government and bottom-line initiatives local entrepreneurs together with the tourist behaviors and how they coordinate in managing and financing the island’s activity.

Literature review:

Research has been done to establish the importance of this island in local tourism and international tourism. (Chen, 2010) explains the critical function of joining this island. He states that Taiwan suffered a lot of bloodshed and brutality during the military regime. After the transfer of power, democracy was obtained in this part of the country, and the island remained a significant historical site. The battlefield and weapons used during this time have remained significant tourist attraction within the Island. A god working relationship ties between Taiwan and the Fujian open the island to the tourist from the other part of the country. (Chen, 2010) noted that tourist safety could only be guaranteed by the stability and tranquility of the region.

Wu, Yu-Shan (2005) presents the political overview of the region. He states that there are economic, political, and social ties that have been witnessed across Taiwan and other regions. He attributes the above notion of perfect relationship to the transaction of Taiwan as a region.  According to Wu, Yu-Shan democracy has since developed over the years, and the economic ties across the region have made it possible to realize good leaders.  Due to this, it is paramount that the Taiwan people maintain their democratic system to connect well with other mainland cities.

Rigger, Shelley (2002) presents various factors that bring down the memory lane to the various factors that have shaped Taiwan politics. Since the years 1930s, Taiwan has constantly experienced turmoil in chaos. Some of the democracy movement and the fronts come from the 1940s, but there were also experienced again in the following years. With such historical background, there is so much to work on as a region.

Liu, Hua-Yueh(2012) states that the Island has a bloody history that must and should be cleansed. The bloody history that he refers to is the time during the Island was under the military administration. At this time, the island could not be entered by any tourist. The tourist activities were timely for constant wars and killings under the government’s sight. Liu, Hua-Yueh states that Kinmen is now open, and it’s time to receiver the lost time. This paper focuses on how to recover such time.  After the civil wars experienced in china, Tsai et al. state that communities that were at war with one other have settled their problem and could not work together as one people. There were significant economic and industrial signs that the place had some progress.  The place attracted massive investment from foreign investors. The ferries which connected the cities also had a hand in making the place a better tourist attraction site.  This fact clear explains why the Island should not go back under the military can or should not go back to war.

Methodology

The methodology part of the paper will cover several areas. The areas include research design, the target population, and the sampling design used in this research.  The section will also present information about data collection methods to be used during the research. Finally, the research will test the validity and reliability of the research questions and objectives.

The research design:

The research design is defined as a plan which details how the researcher will conduct the study.  In regards to this, the research design to be adopted for the study must help the kind of appropriate researcher decide on the results that are achieved.

For this particular research, the researcher will use a mixed-method design.  This method is a combination of both aspects of quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The quantitative approaches are actually alighted to numerical results, while the qualitative adopts the subject point of view to explain the data.  The main reason why one method may not be used is to avoid biases in the results. For example, the quantitative approaches can only tell us that the given variables are responsible for improving the growth of the Island but will not explain how this growth is achieved.

Population

Under this, the research will use an online study population. The researcher will have to interview people who have had experience with the island and understand their views. This will make it easy for the research to draw inference out of firsthand experience. Concerning this, the researcher intends to use random and stratified sampling to the required information. The method of data collection to be used will be a direct interview, questionnaires, and observation. The researcher will engage with the community directly and interview them about their experience in the direct interviewees. Observation will make the research travel from one place to another to collect data. Since the study will involve a mixed method of research, the researcher will involve a mixed method of data collecting to ensure accuracy.
