Simon Sinek opens up his talk by stating that “When you know your ‘why,’ your ‘what’ becomes more precise and more impactful.” At the end of his speech, he expounds on the claim by stating that it is so because by knowing your ‘why,’ means that you are moving towards or in your purpose. In this case, your ‘why’ refers to your purpose. Similarly, in his article titled “What’s Your “Why” and Where Do You Find It?” Sinek further expounds on the ‘why’ and ‘what’ concepts. He states that “why means before you get in the car, you have a sense of destination.” In other words, Sinek implies that before we embark on achieving something, we ought to, first of all, know our purpose, the driving force behind what we do. We should be able to answer the question; why are we doing this?
My ‘why’ is to make my life and those of others around me better. I seek to educate myself in all the aspects of life to be able to understand most issues and be able to react to them most sensibly and appropriately. By doing this, I will be able to solve most problems I together with those around me counter. In this process, I will be able to make the world around us a better place. Knowing my “Why” can make my “What” more impactful since it gives me a clearer sense of direction or purpose and thus helping me stay to the track. More importantly, it will enable me to know when I am off the track and therefore be able to take all the necessary measures to get back as soon as possible. Notably, I feel that my ‘why’ has many components because it is not only about me but also those around me.
