Leadership in an organization
Leadership is very important in ensuring success or failure of a project. Leadership failure leads to collapse of an organization due to the inability to achieve the set objectives. According to Thornton (2014) leadership failures can be caused by either individual leaders or organizational problems. I have experienced both individual initiated and organizational problems. One of the leadership failure that I encountered in one of organization I worked for was lack of accountability and enforcement. In the organization there was no an established code of conduct which provided a chance for people to engage in malpractices like corruption and fraud. The employees in finance and accounting engaged in corruption activities. In the long run the company ran bankrupt and all items were auction leading to the exit of the company from operations. The other leadership failure I am familiar with is poor training and coaching in an organization. In the organization the employees were not well trained nor coached which compromised their competency. The competency of the employees compromised their productivity and innovations which led to low customer satisfaction. The company lost the market segment which reduced the sales volume and profitability.
The failures could be in the organizations to ensure success by doing various activities. In the first organization, there was a need to establish a code of conduct that guides the people on what to do and establishing the enforcement that will occur if there is a violation of the rules. Code of conduct tend to guide the employees in an organization on what to do at any given time. The enforcement program leads to employee becoming more focused in organization objectives. It could help to guide the employees to work toward a common objective. In the second organization, there was a need to establish an onboarding program that will help to integrate the skills of an employee to the organization objectives. The company could also establish a performance management system that is effective in ensuring the employees are coached in areas that they are not performing well. A good performance management system ensures employee development which is fundamental in encouraging employees to commit themselves in the organization activities and promoting retention.
