Letter to Future Student
Dear Future Student,
When I joined this class, I was curious and expectant to know what the course is about. To be honest, I did not expect it to be as challenging as I found it to be. I am sure you have set expectations for yourself with regard to this class, and I hope that after you read my letter, you will resonate some of them with my experience. Throughout the semester, the course strengthened my communication and writing skills; a fact that I am very proud of. I have the ability to analyse and critique texts that I found difficult before I joined this class.
In my previous papers and reflection letters, I had a problem with my MLA text citations. Instead of the Author-page system, I employed the Author-date system which is a diabolical mistake in writing. However, I wrote great papers because we had an amazing course instructor who met all the objectives of the course. We learnt about the different facets of standard written English. For instance, editing, proofreading, analysing and critiquing different texts. We were taken through the concepts of audience, voice, context and purpose. Also, we learnt to implement high ethical standards in writing hence avoiding plagiarism. The only challenge I faced was critical thinking; most of the times, I ended up agreeing with the authors of the texts I was going through. I found it difficult to find fault or a different trail of thought from that of the authors. I consulted my classmates, who took me through the critiquing process and I can confidently declare that I conquered that challenge.
Aside from the course content, the other challenge I faced was juggling and delivering the assignments from all my classes on time. This was a major challenge for me throughout the semester, but I managed to meet all the deadlines through developing a planner. I wrote down all my assignments, in order of priority, then I tackled them one after the other. Time management is the skill I acquired from this class; I learnt how to prioritize and get my work done on time. I will carry this skill and apply it to my professional life. In general, have fun and do not forget why you are here and the goals you set for yourself before joining this class. All the best.
Sincerely,
Current Student.
