Introduction.

Subcontracted employment, political deregulation, and economic globalization for the past 30 years have conspired in the erosion of relative and real wages and those of the lowest-paid workers. Some conditions have made the workers change employers every few years. This is due to the process of re-tendering that have dropped the wages down, and the staffing and conditions levels.

The new labor government from 1997 has improved on the pain that has been caused by low wages employment, and the government has offered to put some minimum standards for the wages from the organizations and the hours and the holiday’s payments in the organizations. According to the national minimum wage it has stated that a person should work for 48 hours per week and a holiday should be given for at least 20 days in the employment relations act of 1999. The employees can be rested after working for 48 hours per week. In the best value search, the government has advised the organization to engage service standards and job quality in their considerations. This has been improved and increased pressure to help with the low wages.

The standards that have been set by the NMW to benchmark on the ways are not relating to the cost of living. Mr. Lewis was brought as the new chief executive of the supermarket, and he paid the worker Lewis’s £3,424 per day compared to Mr. Mason, who paid £46 per day. He paid for the workers 4-7% more than any competitor in the market. Currently, the living wage of the Tesco Company is at £8.80 per hour in lowdown while other companies are at £7.65, the minimum payments as per the pay act are at £6.31 (Clement, 2016). The new chief executive expects the tough questions on how he will turn the business around, which is already battling discounts. He said that they are paying that high rate per hour since they are the best company and employer in the market. This has recognized the living wage in basic pay, and they also take into account employer pension, success in shares scheme, and on colleague discount. All these are put into the account in all the stuff that is above the living wage, those that are in the rest of the UK and London.

The research conducted by the Queen Mary University in London has identified the links between supervision and conditions of cleaning stuff, improvements in the pay and service standards at the QMUL.
