MAGNET HOSPITAL AND NURSING THEORY APPLICATION 1

Magnet recognition program

This is a program that helps to recognize the best health care organizations through their Excellency in demonstrating successful strategies and practices in nursing. Thus, those health facilities receive magnetic recognition due to their services for patient care as well as the presence of innovations within the professional who carry out nursing care. The ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Centre) runs the program and thus allow excellent nursing professionals to be recognized. It is evident that those health facilities which incorporates magnetic program have low chances of RN turnover, the level of RN being satisfied are high, and thus the quality of health care services offered are improved, and they give better clinical outcomes something that provides satisfaction to the patients.

The program is based on the history of earlier studies concerning American Academy of nursing

Which identified fourteen features of health care organizations that had excelled in retention and recruitment registered nurses. Thus ANCC gave the first magnet recognition award in 1994 to the medical center belonging to the University of Washington based at Seattle. Later on in 1197, the name of the program was changed to become MSRP (Magnet Services Recognition Program). The expansion of the program took place in 1998 where it incorporated recognition of facilities that offered long term health care services (Aloysius et al., 2018). Later in 2002, the name of the program was changed into Medical recognition Program, which is the current name being used.

The Magnet model as excellence nursing framework

The magnetic framework is an excellent nursing framework. The frame has five components that support its functioning. These components include; exemplary professional practice, structural empowerment, practical outcomes, new knowledge improvements, and innovations as well as transformational leadership. The ingredients help to solve issues to do with technology advances which act as obstacles to health care and nursing worldwide, pressure cost as well as the effect of the aging workforce.

Most importantly, outcomes serve as the driving force that helps to connect those components which move together to achieve nursing practices excellence. The framework serves as an evidence-based practice which helps to improve the environment of nursing care (Aloysius et al., 2018). It has been indicated that the structure can transform nursing practices in those countries that have few healthcare resources.

Importance of the framework of nursing theory to Magnet Accreditation and the impact it has on nursing practice

The nursing theory framework to Magnet accreditation have various benefits, and its effects have been felt in the nursing practice. Mainly, magnetic certification is considered necessary due to how it helps in addressing the issues of recruitment and retention of nurses. The framework helps in creating a working environment that can attract and retain talents of nurses and at the same time empower nurses to be in a position of delivering exemplary patient care (Aloysius et al., 2018). Nevertheless, the magnet can recognize health care organizations and ensure patient care of high quality as well as Excellency of nurses. It helps to create a positive environment for nursing professionals which leads to improved work performance. Therefore, the program has helped to solve the issue of nursing shortages which was a significant challenge in the nursing profession. Similarly, a magnet has facilitated improved patient care whereby the patient is satisfied with most of the services that are provided (Sitzman, 2018). Moreover, it has become possible to identify nurse professionals who are competent in their career.

Findings to support the application of nursing theory to practice

According to a research study by Aloysius et al., (2018), most of the local hospitals embraced the Caring theory of Jean Watson. It was presented that through the approach; nurses within the local and nationality levels were in a position to join and generate a field which supports energetic self-love care that is based on a heart filled with self-love.

From the nursing literature, research a Magnet Hospital and describe in detail what components from Watson’s Theory of Caring, (or another nursing theory covered in the course text), were used at this facility and the impact on nursing practice. Include support from the current literature. The study found out that, those 300 nurses who were involved in a summit for patient care, were in a position to understand and reflect on the caring practices which they carried out. Thus, it was evident that the Watson theory has offered a clinical practice framework that helped to transform the kind of care provided on the bedside and at the same time stirs the caring passion.

From another study conducted by Sitzman (2018), on integrating Watson theory in nursing practices, it was found out that the nurse leaders within a health care organization played a significant role in supporting the integration of nursing theories. It was also noted that the implemented approach unified several entities within the health care systems and this helped to strengthen the network of nursing practices (Yeter, 2015). Nevertheless, it was shown that the patients considered nurses motives and thus contributed to act as catalysts in speeding up the ability of nurses to master the theory principles.

Application of nursing theory to practice

A hospital uses various steps or processes to utilize nursing theories especially Watson’s approach as frameworks which give guidance to nursing practices. The nurse leaders within the health care system believe that by integrating an establishing nursing theory, the nursing practices are strengthened. Thus, nurse leaders are in a position to explain, discuss and guide the professional nursing practices something that would enable him to improve their practices (Aloysius et al., 2018). The theory helps to present what nursing professionals could not formerly speak since through the approach it becomes possible to proclaim the values and beliefs that surround nursing practices openly. If one of the nursing theory is integrated, it becomes possible to unify the nurse languages through the various entities within the health care system. As a result, the nurse practices can adopt nursing theories and put them into practice (Ryan, 2013).

When nursing theories are to be employed, the best nursing theory is selected. The selection is in line with the core values and mission of a health care organization. In most cases, the organization mission presents that a health care organization exists so that it can help individuals to witness how the love of God is sustained through family-centered care and compassion (Ryan, 2013). Thus, nurses are motivated to be able to improve the wellbeing and health of a community. On the other hand, core values include; accountability, compassion, excellence, services, and respect.

During implementation, nurse leaders with masters or doctoral preparations and they are well familiar with organization core values, nursing theories and mission were always consulted and requested to make necessary recommendation a nursing theory which is congruent (Yeter, 2015). In most cases, nurse leaders recommend Watson’s theory. The approach was considered as a caring theory since it was aligned with a health care organization core values and mission (Sitzman, 2018). After selection, the concerned nurse leader was given the opportunity to enhance integration of the selected nursing theory and thus ensured the method was able to move from the conceptual level to the operational level. After some months, the nurse leader gets the opportunity to develop and present the various overview of the selected theory (Lee et al., 2014). Finally, the nurse leader briefs the vice president, boards of directors, nurse executives and representative of nurse leadership on reasons why the theory had to be implemented.

In conclusion, the magnet recognition program is an effective strategy that helped to motivate clinical nurses to provide quality patient care services. It is evident that nurses try their best to give the best services to ensure their health care organization is recognized among the best. Moreover, appropriate precautions are taken to ensure that even the patients provide a good reputation concerning the services they received from a health care organization. Furthermore, there is much hope that the magnet program will have positive impacts on the nursing profession. In this case, it is expected that nurses will strive to be experts something which will allow them to offer quality health care services. Most importantly, the hospitals which will be providing outstanding patient services will be identified, and it will be possible for them to attract more profit from the increased number of clients. As a result, this would ensure hospitals take more precautions to ensure they retain their customers through the provision of appropriate health care services.
