Media and Reality
Reality is one of the aspects that is difficult to maintain in public. Media and reality have been seen to differ on several occasions. Most of the time, the media presents what the audience wants to see and not what should be heard. For example, it is common to find restrictions limiting the type of content that has to be shared through media. The use of limitations means that reality has been filtered, and the audience has been denied access to reality. The introduction of media has negatively impacted the perception of reality, and people have been made to believe in things that are far different from reality.
Different forms of media harm reality. Media houses, for example, must meet the interests of their followers. Therefore, the media houses are forced to look for information that befits the needs of their followers. Since different followers have varying interests, the houses end up passing only the neutral information that will not harm any of their followers. By choosing to rely on neutral information, the media houses overlook reality and end up impacting the perception of reality on social media. Moreover, social media platforms are also negatively impacted the perception of reality.
Social media platforms involve sharing what people think is good to be seen by their friends or the public. However, restrictions are put in place to filter the type of information to be shared. Most of the restrictions are based on reducing the sensitivity associated with the information shared. Therefore, the real picture on the ground is overlooked, and the perception of reality is not given.
In sum, the media leads to a negative impact on the perception of reality. The restrictions set on the type of information to share removes the allowance of reality to dominate. Therefore, the perception of reality has changed over time due to the introduction of media.
