Media Literacy

Introduction and Thesis

Media literacy in the current generation in this 21st century plays an essential role in the day to day life. In this essay, we will be discussing the various ways in which media literacy is essential, as well as highlighting an actual example of an event in media economics in the world. Media literacy is essential because there is more to technology. Media expertise is the ability to identify various media kinds and understand the messages they are sending (MacDonald, 23). People are taking in a massive amount of data from an extensive range of outlets, a long way beyond the traditional media. There are instant messages, videos, video photos, life on the internet, computer games, ads, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. Be that as it might, a specific topic is in share by all the media: Somebody did. It was also to make which one is as it should be. Understanding the motive is the prerequisite for media competency.

Importance of Media Literacy

The various merits of media literacy are in the discussion below. Mass proficiency makes one perceive their perspective. It involves saying what one needs to state how one needs to state it, and understanding that one’s messages affect is critical to significant correspondence. It empowers one to recognize the job of media in our way of life. From very important I.P. tattles to magazine spreads to images, media reveals something to us, shapes our understanding of the world and in any event convinces us to act or think in specific ways. Comprehend the creator’s objective. Does this involve what the creator needs one to detract from a bit of media? Is it merely useful, is it attempting to alter one’s perspective, or is it acquainting one with new thoughts one has never known about? At the point when one comprehends what kind of impact something has, they can settle on educated decisions.

An Actual event that Occurred related to Media Economics

An actual event that occurred in media economics is the Cable Company Comcast announcing a plan to purchase and control NBC Universal in late 2009. It was in a bid to help Comcast to join a joint deal with NBC.  It was made official in Dec 2004 in the New York Times, which stated, ”G.E. Makes It Official: NBC Will Go to Comcast.” This lucrative deal would give the owners General Electric, equity of forty-nine percent, and Comcast would walk away with a fifty-one percent of the lucrative deal. The proposed adventure merged all NBC Universal channels — including Universal Pictures and Focus Features, Spanish-speaking arrangements for Telemundo and the U.S., MSNBC, CNBC, and Bravo communication systems — with Comcast’s connecting stations integrating E! Versus is separated by Diversion, Golf Net, and Games. Effectively one of the world’s vast network and broadband Internet service providers, Comcast, will then potentially have the ability to confine these widely popular NBC-possessed platforms to its network administration, forcing customers to accept Comcast to televise them or charge large premiums to station liaison supporters, thus allowing for their connection. The importance of this event is for obvious reasons that we already know- business (Van Deursen, 54). The truth of it is that the Comcast competes with satellite service providers like Time Warner and Dish Network. Comcast charges a higher price than the others, and to be at pa in the market, it bought NBC due to the content it delivers. There were also attempts by Comcast to acquire Disney, but the plans failed.

Conclusion

In conclusion, media literacy in this generation is highly a recommendation. As we all know, the world is turning digital every day; thus, the know-how in media is required starting from the young children through to adults. Media economics, on the other side, would require the side would require media literacy understanding to make better decisions.
