Media representations
Conclusively, media representations are vital tools that explain how various cultures are influenced. For instance, with films or videos, one can learn the expected societal works and relate to how multiple stories from the videos influence society. Media production has been affected by stereotypes and misrepresentations for the longest time. These misrepresentations have false information about various groups, such as black women and many others. While focusing on the stereotypical misconceptions of black women, society has developed a negative view of African-American women over time. These stereotypes revolve from the obese and dark-complexioned characters (Mammy) to the promiscuous characters (Jezebel), and other women were associated with barbarism (use of ceramics). These images were portrayed around the media on a global level such that negative ideologies rose concerning race and gender. Black women were degraded to perform non-prestigious tasks like a housemaid, prostitution, and many others. The ideology facilitated slavery since black women worked for the Whites in their plantations.
