T[L2] he article provides detailed and statistically backed-up data analyzing the rate of mental health, substance use, and suicidal ideation during the Pandemic. The research sampled a total of 5412 respondents aged above 18 years across the country. The study results found out that 3683 (68.1%) were first-time respondents, while 1729 (31.9%) were second-time respondents from a survey conducted earlier on between April and May 2020. The sample population was stratified by race, age, gender, employment status, rural-urban residence, essential workers, and unpaid adult caregivers.

The article shows that over 40.9% of the respondents were reported to suffer from at least one adverse mental health or behavioral disorder. The most prevalent symptoms were anxiety disorder and trauma-and stressor-related disorder (TSRD), with a 30.9% and 26.3% representation respectively during the Pandemic. The study also found out that at least 10.7% of the respondents had developed suicidal thoughts over the last 30 days. A racial representation projected 18.6% of the minority groups had considered committing suicide, 18.6% of the Hispanic culture, and a 15.1% representation of the black people considering suicide. (Czeisler et al., 2020)

The study projected that anxiety disorder had increased from 8.1% to 25.5 % by June 2020 compared with the second quarter of 2019[L3] . Depressive disorder, on the other hand, had increased drastically from 6.5% to 24.3% by June 2020. Suicidal ideation had a double increase from 4.3% in 2018 to 10.7 % in June 2020. (Czeisler et al., 2020). The article showed that the research conducted concluded that mental health conditions were prevalent amongst the young people in the stratified classes during the Covid 19[L4] pandemic. Substance use had increased over the Covid 19 pandemic with prevalence on the blacks. Data collection on anxiety disorder symptoms and depressive disorder was assessed using the Four Item patient health questionnaire. In contrast, the six-item Impact of Event Scale was used to collect data on symptoms of a COVID 19 related TSRD.

Description whether the article accurately described the disorder[L6]

The article failed to adequately describe how mental disorder became prevalent during the 2020 Covid pandemic. For instance, the article failed to discuss what anxiety disorder or preventive disorder was. It also failed to explain what substance abuse was. The causal effect of preventive and anxiety disorder on substance abuse and consequently to suicide was not established. Also, a diagnostic evaluation of the preventive and depressive disorder was not carried out, which rendered the findings falsifiable. Substance use was highly subjective. This was caused by the self-reporting model adopted in assessing the prevalence of the same.

Evaluation of the impact of the article

In addressing the issues associated with mental health and substance disorder, the article proposes a multidisciplinary approach in community-level should encompass among others, strengthening economic support, addressing stress connected with racial discrimination, promoting social connectedness and offering psychological counselling to persons at risk for suicide.

For objective communication between affected and possible patients, the paper helps advocate for culturally and linguistically communication practices on prevention that improves emotional wellbeing. The article proposes the development of modern technology that allows for early detection of Covid 19 related TSRD symptoms, in a move to prevent the faster transition from acute to chronic TRSDs. Comprehensive treatment options, harm reduction services and social support were proposed as potential methods that would minimize the potential harm of substance abuse. Consequently, the article proposed a periodic assessment of mental health, suicidal ideation and substance were to be carried out regularly to assess psychological distress over time. As the effects of Covid 19 seemed to be far-reaching, support systems aimed at mitigating mental health consequences were proposed as the Pandemic ensued.
