In the article, the author tends to evaluate the importance of mentorship in the process of recovery. He conveys his message by defining a mentor to be someone who can show you the right path. Someone who can guide you and help you avoid costly mistakes and someone who can teach you the right skills, mindset, and knowledge you need to achieve success as fast as possible. Additionally, the author evaluates the essence of a person in addiction recovery, seeking a mentor. Good mentors provide you with a reality check and a sounding board for ideas before you commit lots of time, money, and effort. They should not make decisions for you but instead should ask a lot of questions, based on their experience and expertise, and encourage you to come up with your answers. The author moves ahead, noting that mentorship does not involve one person, it is essential to find other people who you can talk to, such as religious professional for moral issues. Upon having a mentor, the author notes that a mentor will always listen to the prevailing situation in a person’s life and help the person in seeing the picture more clearly. This is achieved by using life experiences. Such mentors do not solve the addiction problem but rather act as supportive tools for recovery. The only thing they do is listens and provides advice. Finding a mentor necessitates looking into various support groups and 12-Step program group. The choice ought to be an individual you feel confident and respect when talking to.

The author’s message operates in the assumption that the person seeking mentorship knows what he or she wants. However, that might not be the case since other mentees might not comprehend the entire mentorship process as it changes or can be new to them (Berzinski, 2012). Making such an assumption disregarding their accuracy can cause misunderstanding as well as eroding communication and trust. The mentorship process operates in the belief that it is a two-way relationship, from which both participants have the opportunity to learn from each other. Although mentoring may begin on the premise that the more experienced person is imparting their wisdom to the less experienced person, this is an over-simplified view. Additionally, it operates in the belief of fostering positive outcomes to the mentee rather than negative. Mentorship explicit meaning contradicts the implicit in the sense the mentor does not tell the mentee what to do but provides a piece of advice that necessitates the person to try and figure out the exact meaning.

Mentoring is mostly advising with some teaching and could be considered to be being a role model who is teaching you how to follow in his or her footsteps. In ancient Greece, relatively old and wise mentors not only gave professional advice but even advised you on how to live a moral and social life (Jason et al. 2018). Today most mentors mentor youngsters or are high ranked professionals who take a younger human under their supervision to teach them the basics of how to succeed in a given profession. Actually, anyone whom you respect and trust and who is experienced at something or many things can be your mentor. Mentoring can be short-lived, but some mentoring lasts for a long duration, and mentoring can be done by someone whose knowledge is so extensive that you may go to them for advice as long as they are alive. Mentoring is a general inclusive category and usually voluntary, but some are paid for the mentoring subsets, and it is usually considered coaching, counseling, teaching, supervising, or training. A general mentor usually does a little of every subset mentioned to some extent.
